Imagine writing a love note to your wife 70 years ago[1], only to have it found in a record sleeve in a Colorado thrift store. No wonder Bill Moore wept. His wife Bernadean passed away five years ago and everything just came rushing back. All the memories and love… all the loss. He loved her so much, it breaks your heart. He must have been shocked when it was found. Life is strange like that. At 90, Bill has so many memories. Many of them of the woman he loved for most of his life. She’s gone now, but he’ll see her again. Love is like that.

From Viral Thread:

Bill Moore is a friend, a father and even a war hero. But while he may have witnessed the horrors of war, nothing could prepare him for what someone found in the sleeve of a record in a thrift store. It was a letter he wrote during World War II to his love, Bernadean.

“I was really surprised,” he told reporters. “I had no way of knowing it would show up in the way it did, and it would actually reach me.” Now, at the age of 90, Bill was able to look back at the heartfelt words he wrote 70 years ago.

“My darling, lovable, alluring Bernadean,” the letter reads. “I ran out of space, but I could have written a lot more adjectives describing you. You are so lovely, darling, that I often wonder how it is possible that you are mine.”

The letter was written in 1945 and was found in a thrift store in Colorado. The letter means the world to Bill – and provides a unique window into his past. “I’m really the luckiest guy in the world, you know,” the letter continues, “and you are the reason.”

Considering that Bill was married to Bernadean until her death in 2010, this must have made for an incredibly emotional read. It’s just a shame that he won’t get to share it with her again.

Most of us go from day to day, not thinking of the past and barely considering the future. We subsist and live moment to moment just trying to get through our day. Bill got a reminder of all the times he laughed, loved and cried with his wife. He surely thought back to serving in the military and the years that followed. He sounds like he has had a happy, full life. Sometimes tears can cleanse the soul and for a while he was with her again. The letter is priceless in his universe. I’m glad whoever found it got it back to him. It obviously meant the world to Bill.
