Could a Republican Take Ted Kennedy’s Seat?

This gives an idea of just how fed up America is getting with the extremism and abuse of power Democrats have flaunted over the past year. Even in ultra-liberal Taxachusetts, the seat of leftist icon Chappaquiddick Ted Kennedy could be taken by Republican Scott Brown:[1]

Attorney General Martha Coakley leads her Republican rival state Sen. Scott Brown by a mere nine points in the race to succeed the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll published [Tuesday]. …

The survey also found 21 percent of likely special election voters have a “very favorable” opinion of Coakley, while 22 percent have a “very unfavorable” view of her.

For Brown, the survey found 25 percent of voters had a “very favorable” view of him and five percent gave him a “very unfavorable” rating.

Nine points is highly surmountable, especially since turnout is expected to be low, and conservatives are much more motivated than the bovine liberals who are chewing their politically correct cud ever more slowly as they watch their country come apart around them under the rule of the socialist kooks they elected.

Still more amazing — the local liberal establishment rag[2] has poked Croakley in the nose:

In October 2005, a Somerville police officer living in Melrose raped his 23-month-old niece with a hot object, most likely a curling iron.

Keith Winfield, then 31, told police he was alone with the toddler that day and made additional statements that would ultimately be used to convict him.

But in the aftermath of the crime, a Middlesex County grand jury overseen by Martha Coakley, then the district attorney, investigated without taking action.

It was only after the toddler’s mother filed applications for criminal complaints that Coakley won grand jury indictments charging rape and assault and battery.

Even then, nearly 10 months after the crime, Coakley’s office recommended that Winfield be released on personal recognizance, with no cash bail. He remained free until December 2007, when Coakley’s successor as district attorney won a conviction and two life terms.

Coakley, now the Democratic candidate for US Senate, has made much of her record prosecuting crimes against children, and says her office handled this investigation appropriately. But the case stands out as one in which she drew criticism for not being aggressive enough. … John Swomley, a defense lawyer who has represented clients prosecuted by Coakley, said he found her decision to recommend that Winfield be released on personal recognizance unusual.

Even in New England, whose liberal courts are infamous for siding with perverted fiends against the children they prey on, this is not good press — and as Jules Crittenden[3] reports,

this is just the latest friendly fire. Earlier the Globe whacked her for a go-lightly deal that left the late infamous diddler priest, John Geoghan, free to diddle.

Then there’s this, from Globe columnist Brian McGrory[4]:

If you’re a registered voter in Massachusetts, your friendly Democratic Senate candidate, Martha Coakley, is sticking her thumb in your eye.

Coakley, in exquisitely diva-like form, is refusing all invitations to debate her Republican opponent in the race, Scott Brown, unless a third-party candidate with no apparent credentials is included on the stage. She may also require a crystal bowl of orange-only M&Ms in her dressing room, but we haven’t gotten that far yet. Her demands have led to an astonishing result: there will be just one — that’s one — live televised debate in the Boston media market this general election season.

She’s counting on voters, knowledgeable or not, to reflexively pull the Democratic lever. …

This is all part of a Coakley pattern. When she ran for attorney general, she didn’t allow even the Republican candidate on a debate stage. In fact, she refused to debate at all.

…let’s take a look at Coakley’s campaign schedule for today. Well, actually, we can’t. There isn’t one. She isn’t doing anything in public — no meetings with voters, no debates, no public appearances. For all we know, she’s spending much of her time at home with the shades drawn waiting for Jan. 19, Election Day, to come and go.

Once the arrogant socialists in charge consolidate their power, they won’t need the press behind them anymore — hostile media can be dealt with Hugo Chavez-style. But if they lose it too soon, America might still have a chance.
