I do not believe this for one minute:
In the two-minute and 42-second video released Monday, Obama emphasizes that the key to victory for Democrats in November will be convincing the people who helped fuel his 2008 White House bid – first-time voters – to head to the polls for the second time in two years even though he is not on the ballot.
“It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again,” Obama says in the video that was sent to the 13 million people on his Organizing for America’s email list. OFA was the Obama presidential campaign organization that is now housed at the Democratic National Committee.
Democratic candidates head into the midterm elections saddled with a struggling economy, a national unemployment rate near double digits, home foreclosures and a nation split over the recently enacted health care reform law. All of this has contributed to voter antipathy toward incumbent politicians and has prompted predictions that Republicans will pick up seats in the House and Senate.
In the video, Obama touts the health care reform law and highlights his administration’s efforts to help revive the economy, but the president also cautions supporters that key parts of his agenda could be reversed if the GOP takes back control of Congress.
“But despite everything we’ve done, our work isn’t finished,” Obama says in the video. “Today, the health insurance companies, the Wall Street banks, and the special interests who have ruled Washington for too long are already focused on November’s congressional elections.
“They see these elections as a chance to put their allies back in power, and undo all that we have accomplished. So this year, I need your help once more.”
The DNC is expected to pump $50 million into the midterm elections to try and help House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates.
Obama will publicly work like a concerned school marm to get the stupid and uninterested involved in this election. But he knows, and everyone knows, that it won’t work. Oh, they have the machine in place nationwide to get the stooges mobilized and that should terrify Republicans. But Republicans are smug, self-involved bubble-heads snorting the hubris of what they perceive as anti-Democrat sentiment.
The mis-diagnose of course. The American people hate everyone, including them. A lot.
Even still, this loathing will translate into more votes for Republicans because the Democrats make the Republican arrogance look like a passing case of narcissism. The Democrats make no bones about it: They do not care what voters think at all. They are still quite certain that the American people are complete idiots–I mean, the voters voted the Democrats in, didn’t they? How smart can they be?
So, November will roll around with both party leaders drinking their own brand of delusion and not fully believing how much the American people hate their guts.
And what is hilarious about this $50 million dollar Obama dance is that he doesn’t want Democrats to retain the house. It is not in his best interests for that to happen. Oh no.
What will suit Obama is if there are Republican in charge. What has really sucked for Obama these last two years is that he has no one to blame. Oh, he’s tried to blame Bush and that rallies the Bushitler crowd, but mosts other people roll their eyes. It’s the same old, same old.
But if Republicans take over, there’s a new delicious villain. And one that everyone hates–not as much as Nancy Pelosi, of course, but there’s still a lot of hate there.
And so, when the economy still does horribly because of misguided Democrat policies, Obama can blame the Republicans. Here are the things he’ll say:
“That solution didn’t go far enough.”
“The Republicans aren’t for real change.”
“The Republicans are the party of ‘No'”.
“White people hate poor people.”
“They aren’t willing to do their fair share.”
And on and on it will go. There will be more class warfare. There will be more division. There will be more demonizing.
Barack Obama will depend on the fact that Americans hate Republicans. He’ll exploit it and focus, laser-like on any weakness on their side.
The only hope the Republicans have is standing firm on issues Americans want. I know, this is shocking advice. But since NO ONE in Washington seems interested in what Americans are interested in, a new Republican majority consistently going after policies that would help workers and small business people, that would cut government spending and put Americans first, well, that actually might work.
But don’t believe President Obama when he acts like he cares about keeping a Democrat majority. If he cared, he would have passed health care reform as his first priority, worked with Republicans on it, and achieved voter buy-in, but he didn’t. He had a hard left agenda and like he said, he didn’t mind being a one-term president.
And he doesn’t. This is ideological. He would rather be that guy–the guy brave enough to remake America. And if that means the Democrats go down in a ball of flames, so be it.
Republicans running Congress would suit Obama’s personal political purposes. And the only issue that has mattered to Obama is Obama. And he’ll do better without divided Democrats making his life hard. He’s already enacted the legislation that will socialize America. What more can he really do? Nothing.
So don’t believe President Obama’s pleas to mobilize the faithful. It’s a victory he doesn’t even want.
