GOP Sen Cornyn (TX) and Alexander (TN) Working to Stop Bills That Oppose Sanctuary Cities

Do you want an end to sanctuary cities? Well apparently Senators John Cornyn (TX) and Lamar Alexander (TN) have no desire to end “sanctuary cities.” The two GOP Senators are working over time to put an end to amendments that oppose so-called “sanctuary cities” where federal immigration laws are ignored and violent illegal criminals are routinely released back into the public.

Several amendments have been added to several bills to try and put a crimp in sanctuary cities. One amendment to the reauthorization of the NO Child Left Behind Act would cut off federal law enforcement funds to sanctuary cities. Other amendments to other bills try similar tracks to ending lawbreaking cities like San Francisco.

But Cornyn and Alexander are working hard to make sure none of these amendments pass[1].

Allowing a vote on this urgent national security issue is the least GOP leaders can do after forcing conservatives to debate a liberal education bill for two weeks. Yet, according to Senate sources, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), the floor manager of the education bill, are pulling out all the stops in order to oppose a vote on sanctuary cities. What’s more appalling, GOP leaders are allowing a vote on leftist Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) non-germane (not relevant to the bill at hand) amendment to grant special rights to homosexual and transgender students and threaten the religious liberty of private citizens. Traditionally when one party receives a non-germane amendment the other receives a vote on a non-germane amendment of their choosing as well.

This is part of a growing trend by GOP leaders to oppose timely and politically-winning conservative amendments, while conducting votes on far-left social engineering priorities from Democrats and continuing Harry Reid’s legacy. In April, leadership blocked an amendment from Sen. Sessions which would have closed the illegal alien family trafficking loophole in the human trafficking bill. They also blocked an amendment from Sen. Vitter to close the birthright citizenship/birth tourism loophole.

At the same time, leadership allowed an amendment from Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) in April that would have discriminated against faith-based social groups who don’t service the transvestite agenda.

GOP leaders appear to have undergone the equivalent of an ideological sex-change operation since the November elections and have completely inverted their political priorities. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, sanctuary cities have been responsible for the release of over 8,000 criminal aliens just over an 8-month period in 2014. Nearly 2,000 of those released were later arrested 4,300 times for an array of crimes. To amplify the situation, Obama is now implementing a sanctuary country policy forcing ICE to release thousands of illegal aliens at detention facilities.

Why are Republicans working so hard to allow criminal illegals to continue their reign of terror?
