Now, that’s just funny![1] Nasheed managed to become the laughing stock of the blogosphere – quite a feat. So, the Dems gave up naming the dinner after two men who owned slaves (presidents at that, in an age when slavery was very common unfortunately), but who were not racist… in favor of a man who owned no slaves, but who was obviously a die hard racist. That makes perfect sense. Not. When you are blinded by political correctness to the point of implementing a knee-jerk response, and an uneducated one at that, you are pretty much doomed to become a very bad joke. I doubt Nasheed is an uncaring racist… that leaves just stupid and ignorant. Of course, the Democrats’ history is replete with racists, as they founded the KKK and idolized Margaret Sanger of racist eugenics fame, so they have slim pickings to choose from. They should be more careful who they promote as namesakes in this uber politically correct environment they are nurturing. Very careful, indeed.

From DuaneLester:
The Missouri Democrat Party decided to be the first to bend to the demands of the politically correct crowd and rename their annual dinner. Democrats across the country attend “Jefferson-Jackson” dinners, named after presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, both considered founders of the Democrat Party.
The problem is, they both owned slaves. Sen. Jamilah Nasheed wasn’t having it and vowed never to attend another dinner named after slave-owners[3]:
With all due respect to former presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, Nasheed contends that it’s inappropriate for a Democratic event to be named after them, when both owned slaves.
“These are the two presidents that did…major harm to African-Americans,’’ Nasheed said.
Yesterday, she tweeted out the news[4]. The name of the dinner in Missouri is no longer Jefferson-Jackson. It’s now named after Missouri’s own Harry S. Truman.
No longer will Missouri’s Democrats be honoring slave owners. Now, they honor a former member of the KKK[5]:
Harry S. Truman, the Democratic Missouri politician who became president in 1945, dabbled with the Klan briefly. In 1924, he was a judge in Jackson County, Missouri, which includes Kansas City. Truman was up for reelection, and his friends Edgar Hinde and Spencer Salisbury advised him to join the Klan. The Klan was politically powerful in Jackson County, and two of Truman’s opponents in the Democratic primary had Klan support. Truman refused at first, but paid the Klan’s $10 membership fee, and a meeting with a Klan officer was arranged.
According to Salisbury’s version of the story, Truman was inducted, but afterward “was never active; he was just a member who wouldn’t do anything.”
Truman later repudiated the Klan, but not because of their positions on black people. He didn’t agree with their bigotry towards Catholics.
Truman often used racist language[6]:
“I think one man is just as good as another so long as he’s honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman,” Truman wrote as a 27-year old in 1911. “Uncle Will says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman.”
“[Uncle Will] does hate Chinese and Japs,” Truman wrote. “So do I. It is race prejudice, I guess. But I am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America.”
Though Truman nearly lost the 1948 Democratic nomination when Southern Democrats walked out of the convention due to Truman’s mildly progressive racial policies at the time, his personal beliefs were pretty firmly racist.
As a U.S. senator, Truman told his daughter in a letter that the White House waitstaff was comprised of “an army of coons.”
And:
President Harry S Truman called Congressman Adam Clayton Powell “that damned nigger preacher.”
This information wasn’t secret. It wasn’t hidden away.
Either the Missouri Democratic Party is ignorant of its own racist history, or it doesn’t care if it honors a former member of the KKK.
I’m split on which it could be, but I know they have very few choices of which Democratic president to name it after and not be honoring a racist.
Even Bill Clinton was painted as a racist in 2008 for suggesting to Sen. Ted Kennedy that Obama should be serving them drinks.
So, good luck with the renaming. Pro-tip: stay away from Woodrow Wilson, FDR and LBJ. Lots of racist history there.
A few minutes on Google and this would not have been necessary. But alas, Democrats don’t know their own history. They just regurgitate what they’ve been told over and over again, like good little robots. Facts don’t matter to them at all. Everything is colored by racism these days in their eyes. It is their weapon du jour for pushing their Progressive agenda. In fact, it’s not even about race… in the end it’s about control and power. The whole slave issue is a ruse meant to help change our history and laws and to enrich those who don’t deserve it and haven’t earned it. Truman was a stone cold racist. So was Wilson, FDR and LBJ. Clinton was one quietly so and if you look at many in the Democratic Party, you will find it is still the case today. Race is a means to an end and nothing is ever what it seems.
