Donald Trump took his first overseas trip as President this weekend and one of his stops was in Saudi Arabia. By all reports, the visit went remarkably well. But it seems that it went better than anyone could have possibly expected[1].

Following Trump’s visit, Saudi Arabia has announced they believe Trump could facilitate a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir had a press conference alongside Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, in which he said that Trump’s trip marked a “turning point” in American-Islamic relations. He also spoke of “draining the swamp” in reference to fighting terrorism and Islamic extremism in the Middle East.

But it was his comments regarding Israel that have really garnered attention.

The foreign minister, who said he was speaking on behalf of Saudi Arabian King Salman, spoke of the “kingdom’s optimism that President Trump, with a new approach and determination, can bring a conclusion to this long conflict. He certainly has the vision, and we believe he has the strength and the decisiveness. And the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stands prepared to work with the United States in order to bring about peace between Israelis and Palestinians and Israelis and Arabs.”

As for Trump himself, he spoke of the deal reached between the United States and Saudi Arabia, a multi-billion dollar deal in which the United States will supply Saudi Arabia with weapons and ships, and in return, Saudi Arabia will step up their role in fighting terrorism in the Middle East. Trump called his visit “tremendous” and added that “tremendous investments” would come from the deal signed between the two countries. He also promised that there was something else Americans could look forward to thanks to this deal: “jobs, jobs, jobs.”

Do you think Donald Trump did a good job on his first overseas presidential trip?
