New York Times Publisher VOWS To Rededicate Paper To ‘HONEST REPORTING’ – After Trump WIN

The New York Times[1] is having a hard time grasping how the election could have gone so wrong. Their publisher is now vowing to rededicate the failing media giant to reporting on “America and the world” honestly. Personally, I’ll believe it when I see it. He also asked for the support of their subscribers, indicating he thought a more honest approach may tick them off. That’s exactly backwards.

There’s a reason that Donald Trump was elected President. He represented the people… not special interests, elites or DC. The people made it very clear that is what they wanted in a candidate and instead, the Left put forth not just a career politician, but a bloody crook. How can they be surprised in the least that Donald Trump was elected? The Left owns this. The New York Times was a big part of that, giving non-stop fawning coverage to Hillary Clinton and demonizing Donald Trump at every opportunity. Now, Trump is President and putting the fear of oblivion into the media. The New York Times has been so out of touch that becoming a legitimate media source will be like climbing Everest. Good luck with that.

From Fox News:

The publisher of The New York Times penned a letter to readers Friday promising that the paper would “reflect” on its coverage of this year’s election while rededicating itself to reporting on “America and the world” honestly.

Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr., the paper’s embattled publisher, appealed to Times readers for their continued support.

“We cannot deliver the independent, original journalism for which we are known without the loyalty of our subscribers,” the letter states.

New York Post columnist and former Times reporter Michael Goodwin wrote[4], “because it (The Times) demonized Trump from start to finish, it failed to realize he was onto something. And because the paper decided that Trump’s supporters were a rabble of racist rednecks and homophobes, it didn’t have a clue about what was happening in the lives of the Americans who elected the new president.

Sulzberger’s letter was released after the paper’s public editor, Liz Spayd, took the paper to task for its election coverage. She pointed out how its polling feature Upshot gave Hillary Clinton an 84 percent chance as voters went to the polls. They really thought she had it in the bag. I think it was Newsweek that had a Truman/Dewey moment and released an issue with Madam President on it. How humiliating. Almost every poll out there got this so wrong, it’s laughable.

The New York Times made Clinton look organized, together and presidential, while they tried to make Trump look like a bumbling buffoon. How in the world do they expect Americans to ever believe their reporting again? That’s going to take a major miracle.

Spayd wrote, “Readers are sending letters of complaint at a rapid rate. Here’s one that summed up the feelings succinctly, from Kathleen Casey of Houston: “Now, that the world has been upended and you are all, to a person, in a state of surprise and shock, you may want to consider whether you should change your focus from telling the reader what and how to think, and instead devote yourselves to finding out what the reader (and nonreaders) actually think.”

Unless the New York Times has a come to Jesus moment and embraces real honest reporting, I don’t see them taking the advice of their readers. They would be wise to listen to their readers and reevaluate what journalism actually is. Sulzberger — who insisted that the paper covered both candidates fairly – also sent a note to staffers on Friday reminding the newsroom to “give the news impartially, without fear or favor.” Then he insisted there will be no bias from the NYT in welcoming the new Trump Administration. Gee, denial is a thing with you guys, isn’t it?
