Well, I didn’t see this one coming[1]. It explains why Trump met with Romney. Funny, I never heard of him meeting with his niece though. Ronna Romney McDaniel has just been named head of the Republican National Committee according to sources. She was evidently the favored choice of current RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. She hails from the Michigan Republican Party.
I had hoped this spot would go to Carly Fiorina who would have whipped the RNC into shape. Frankly, I know very little about McDaniel and the fact that she is so close to Priebus gives me pause over the whole deal. She was instrumental in helping Trump win Michigan and now she is being rewarded for it. There is little doubt the job is hers now for better or worse.

From The Hill[3]:
Ronna Romney McDaniel is expected to be Donald Trump’s pick to be the next chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), according to two sources with direct knowledge of the deliberations.
McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party, is expected to attend Trump’s rally in Grand Rapids, Mich., Friday night. The Hill has not been able to confirm, however, whether the president-elect will announce his support for her at the event.
McDaniel is the favored choice of current RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, according to two sources with direct knowledge of Priebus’s thinking. Trump has told Priebus that he wants him to take responsibility for ensuring the RNC is put into safe hands under his presidency.
Priebus knows he’s going to have his hands full as the incoming White House chief of staff. So, according to a source familiar with his thinking, he wants his replacement to be somebody that he trusts and who knows their way around the committee.
This choice is probably meant to placate Romney and those that were in favor of him having a role in Trump’s cabinet. This is how the game is played. As a committee member, McDaniel has the advantage over the other top contender: Nick Ayers, who is viewed as more independent of the RNC. Priebus won’t go for that. Ayers, a GOP strategist and former executive director of the Republican Governors Association, is a senior aide to Vice President-elect Mike Pence. Pence has supported him for the RNC chairmanship. But it sounds like the decision has already been made here.
McDaniel appeared Friday night in Grand Rapids, Mich., ahead of Trump’s “thank you” rally where she celebrated Michigan’s surprise vote for Trump and blasted the recent recount in the state funded by the Green Party’s Jill Stein as a temper tantrum. “They said a Republican could never win Michigan. I knew better, you knew better, and Donald Trump knew better. We all know — never underestimate Michigan,” she said. “We are proud to have fought for this movement and we thank him for what he has done and for what he is about to do.” Let’s hope that McDaniel will clean house in the RNC. It certainly needs it.
