Trump Calls for a ‘Special Session’ to Fully Repeal Obamacare [VIDEO]

Donald Trump told a rally yesterday that immediately after he is elected (not if), he will call on Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare. And Republicans cheered like zombies. First off, Obamacare should not be replaced. We should allow the free market to work its magic. Repeal this atrocity and leave the market the hell alone. Replacing a working system is what got us in this mess to begin with. Trump is a fan of single-payer healthcare and he could very well replace Obamacare with what the liberals wanted all along. Be careful what you wish for.

Second, repealing Obamacare is not going to be done with a wave of Trump’s hand. It won’t magically be repealed. Even if the Republicans hold the Senate, the Democrats have enough votes to filibuster such a move. Republicans may use a complicated budget procedure to repeal Obamacare that won’t allow for a filibuster. That would probably take months and a replacement bill would take even longer. Reality is a bitch here.

From Politico:

Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to immediately repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s signature health care law if he’s elected president next week.

“When we win on Nov. 8 and elect a Republican Congress, we will be able to immediately repeal and replace Obamacare. We have to do it,” Trump said Tuesday afternoon in an address on the Affordable Care Act in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

“I will ask Congress to convene a special session so we can repeal and replace,” he continued. “And it will be such an honor for me, for you and for everybody in this country because Obamacare has to be replaced. And we will do it, and we will do it very, very quickly. It is a catastrophe.”

Republicans are fractured even on Obamacare. Paul Ryan has released an overview of a replacement plan, but no one agrees on the details. Many don’t want a replacement plan at all, like me. Obamacare was not a hot topic in this election. Why? Because Ted Cruz was sabotaged and forced out of the race by Trump. And because Trump’s views on Obamacare align more with the left than the right. Now, with premiums about to skyrocket, everyone is panicking like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. You should have panicked when Cruz warned everyone about this. Donald Trump is now using the topic as leverage to get elected. But his promises ring hollow as it is virtually impossible for him to keep all of them, or to even keep them straight.

Trump is right when he says it is a 3,000 page behemoth that no one understands. It’s monstrous. “Here in Pennsylvania, premiums are going to increase more than 60 percent,” he said. “And that’s nothing compared [to] what will happen in the future. Of course, in the future, if I’m president, there won’t be Obamacare so you won’t have to worry about that.” No, but I worry about what there will be. “Obamacare means higher prices, fewer choices and lower quality, yet Hillary Clinton wants to expand Obamacare and make it even more expensive,” he added. “She wants to put the government totally in charge of health care in America. If we don’t repeal and replace Obamacare, we will destroy American healthcare forever. It’s one of the single most important reasons why we must win on Nov. 8. We must win.” That part is true… Hillary would go straight to single payer… with Trump, we don’t know yet.

Trump called for replacing Obamacare with health savings accounts that would allow Americans to purchase insurance across state lines and empowering states to manage Medicaid funding. That part I condone and it is a great idea. It should have been that way all along.

I will give Pence points because he nailed it and made the best case for Trump: “The choice in this election couldn’t be more clear. With Hillary Clinton we’ll get more of the same from the last seven-and-a-half years,” he said. “More taxes, more spending, more regulation and more Obamacare. I mean, we can’t trust Hillary Clinton with our health care any more than we can trust her with classified information.” That is very, very, very true. But can we stop with hyperbole and deal with solid, realistic strategy?
