John Kasich Makes Surprise Electoral College Announcement – No One Saw This Coming…

I have to give it to Kasich…[1] this was the right thing to do and very statesman-like. He has now told all Electors to not cast their votes for him. He says he is not running for President and now is the time to come together behind President-elect Trump. He’s calling for unity and to stop this nonsense before it destroys us.

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Kasich is enjoying a high approval rating as Ohio’s governor, which, coupled with the fact he won the Ohio primary over Trump, makes him a good alternative to the President-elect. But he’s nipping that in the bud because he knows that Trump won the election fair and square and for us to recover as a nation, we must rally behind one leader. For better or worse, that leader is Donald Trump.

From Western Journalism:

In an effort to stave off further division among voters, Ohio Gov. John Kasich issued[3] a statement aimed at a handful of members of the Electoral College.

Kasich’s statement was an attempt to dissuade a group of Democratic electors, calling themselves “Hamilton Electors”[4] from voting for him as an alternative to Trump.

“I am not a candidate for president and ask that electors not vote for me when they gather later this month. Our country had an election and Donald Trump won,” Kasich said.

“The country is divided and there are certainly raw emotions on both sides stemming from the election. But this approach, as well meaning as it is, will only serve to further divide our nation, when unity is what we need.

“The election is over. Now is the time for all of us to come together as Americans.”

Kasich stood his ground against Trump right up until he was elected. But once Trump won the race, Kasich called him to congratulate him. That is how you are supposed to conduct yourself, not only as a politician and a leader, but as a gentleman. It was rumored that Trump asked Kasich to be his Vice President and Kasich turned him down. I have no trouble believing that. It was further rumored that Trump wanted him to handle all foreign and domestic affairs. Who knows if that is accurate, but I’m sure Kasich has plans to run again and is biding his time.

The goal behind the Hamilton Electors is to convince Republican Electors to vote against Trump to reduce his number of Electoral votes to below the required 270, thereby sending the election to the House of Representatives. The House would still pick Donald Trump as President, but the Left would see it as undermining his Presidency and the Electoral College. They would brand Trump as an illegitimate President. For the move to be successful, 37 Republicans would need to join with the group of Democrats and vote against Trump as the next President. That just isn’t going to happen and Kasich wants no part of it anyway. Good for him.
