BAD NEWS for Jill Stein’s Election Recount

Jill Stein, an Independent Party candidate, never had any chance of winning the presidency. Yet for some inexplicable reason, she decided to launch a ridiculous campaign calling for a recount, as if it would make any difference whatsoever to her. And now, she has just been hit with some very bad news: her recount effort is officially dead[1].

It turns out that Stein missed the deadline to file for a recount in Pennsylvania. The deadline was Monday, November 21. And missing it is not just a blow for Stein, but for Democrats overall, who were hoping that a recount could give Hillary Clinton a win in Pennsylvania. They were also hoping for recounts to happen in Michigan and Wisconsin. Stein originally allied herself with the Democrats, mounting a legal challenge to try to force a recount. But she must not have cared that much if she couldn’t bother to file by the deadline.

Trump’s win in Pennsylvania was shocking to Democrats. A Republican hasn’t won the state since Ronald Reagan in 1984. Trump also won by 70,000 votes and a recount isn’t likely to make up that large of a difference.

So, what kept Stein from following through with the recount? A lawyer for Stein’s campaign on November 8th said the election was “illegal.” The lawyer claimed that the results were not accurate because of potential irregularities with voting machines, along with other “evidence.” “Petitioners have grave concerns about the integrity of electronic voting machines used in their districts,” the suit claimed.

In order to prompt a recount though, Stein and her lawyers would have to be able to provide evidence of probable election fraud. Secretary of State Pedro Cortes — a Democrat — absolutely denies any voter fraud or irregularities. “There is no evidence whatsoever that points to any type of irregularity in any way, shape or form,” he said. Presumably, Stein’s lawyers couldn’t find any evidence either and so were forced to drop the recount attempt.

Hopefully, this will be the end to this pointless waste of everyone’s time and money.
