Mississippi voters add right to hunt and fish to their state constitution

While I’m all for hunting and fishing, I consider this more of a Second Amendment issue. Mississippi now joins 17 others states that have made hunting and fishing a right: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. The amendment to Mississippi’s Constitution passed last night overwhelmingly. It is a win for gun right’s activists, hunters, fishermen and sports enthusiasts across the board – a Constitutional right to hunt, fish and harvest game species throughout the state of Mississippi.

From WLOX 13:

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) – Mississippi will make hunting and fishing a right, instead of simply a privilege. With just eight percent of precincts reporting, the Associated Press has declared the constitutional amendment passed.

Proponents of the amendment said it would better protect their freedom to hunt and fish in the future, and many admit it is proactive. Some opponents say the amendment is unnecessary.

Lawmakers have said that once the amendment is officially adopted, state game wardens will work with lawmakers to regulate seasons, limits, and other license requirements.

87% of voters in Mississippi voted ‘Yes’ on this issue. The objective here was to preempt future regulation against hunting and also to establish it as the “preferred” means of wildlife population control, as opposed to special forms of contraception and other methods of thinning out herds that the animal right’s busybodies are pushing. This is an issue that the NRA has been actively promoting and having great success with. This stops animal right’s groups dead in their tracks concerning gun control, etc. Looks like not only are voters going for conservative candidates while giving Democrats the boot, they want Progressives to keep their grubby mitts off our guns and leave our hunting and fishing rights alone. Bucking the system… Mississippi, you do us proud.
