San Jose Bans Plastic Bags

The petty tyrants running San Jose have pushed us along for another step[1] toward our glorious green freedom-free future:

San Jose is to become the largest city in the U.S. to ban plastic carry-out bags, according to a report.

The city council voted 10-1 to introduce the ban on Jan. 1, 2012, in the hope of encouraging customers to bring their own bags, The San Jose Mercury News said.

The newspaper said the ordinance would outlaw disposable plastic bags being given out at checkouts. Paper bags will be available, but only with a charge.

As with all laws inspired by environmentalist ideology, it will increase burden and cost for consumers — which may be the primary point, considering the leftist ideology driving all things green. Emily Utter of the ecomoonbat outfit Save the Bay echoed Chairman Mao[2] when she crowed that “this ordinance is a great step forward.”

Five thousand businesses, most if not all of them struggling in California’s anemic economy, face $1,000 fines for failing to obey the ordinance. Hopefully shoppers will develop resistance to the bacteria that run riot[3] in the reusable bags our moonbat rulers want us to use.
