Police are reportedly still exchanging fire with the gunman. The attack took place at the opening of the “Russia through Turks’ eyes” photo exhibition. Ambassador Andrey Karlov was allegedly targeted and specifically shot at.

Karlov has been taken to the hospital, where he is believed to be in critical condition. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the attack on Karlov, including the report that Karlov has suffered at least one gunshot wound. Shortly after the attack, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu was seen arriving at the scene.

Tomorrow, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was supposed to be visiting Moscow for talks on Syria with the Russian and Iranian governments. There is no word if that visit has been canceled or if it will go on as planned.
