USA Effectively Goes to War in Alliance With Al Qaeda

The unthinkable is official: the United States government is allied with Al Qaeda.

The Obama administration has concluded that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government used chemical weapons against the rebels seeking to overthrow him and, in a major policy shift, President Obama has decided to supply military support to the rebels, the White House announced Thursday.

“The president has made a decision about providing more support to the opposition that will involve providing direct support to the [Supreme Military Council]. That includes military support,” Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communication Ben Rhodes told reporters.

Funny, Saddam Hussein’s use of chemical weapons on his own people didn’t influence Obama to favor military intervention.

The cost of our military support, until it inevitably rockets upward, will be about $50 million a day. That’s fine, taxpayers have plenty of money. Some people are still working. When we run out, Big Government can print some more.

A little background on our Syrian comrades in arms:

A Syrian rebel group’s April pledge of allegiance to al-Qaeda’s replacement for Osama bin Laden suggests that the terrorist group’s influence is not waning and that it may take a greater role in the Western-backed fight to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The pledge of allegiance by Syrian Jabhat al Nusra Front chief Abou Mohamad al-Joulani to al-Qaeda leader Sheik Ayman al-Zawahri was coupled with an announcement by the al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq, the Islamic State of Iraq, that it would work with al Nusra as well.

Lebanese Sheik Omar Bakri, a Salafist who says states must be governed by Muslim religious law, says al-Qaeda has assisted al Nusra for some time.

On September 11, 2001, as New Yorkers covered in white dust that consisted in part of the bones of their former coworkers shambled north from lower Manhattan like an army of zombies, was there anyone cynical enough to believe that hardly more than a decade later our government would be allied with those responsible in a war that does not in any way advance American interests?

More background on our allies:

Members of an al Qaeda-linked Islamist group in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo executed a 15-year-old boy in front of his parents on Sunday as punishment for what the group regarded as a heretical comment, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. …

A photo released by the Observatory showed [Mohammad] Qataa’s face with his mouth and jaw bloodied and destroyed, as well as a bullet wound in his neck.

Here is the photo, if you have the belly for it.

The Observatory, which based its report on witness accounts of the killing, said Qataa, who was a street vendor selling coffee in the working-class Shaar neighborhood, had been arguing with someone when he was overheard saying: “Even if the Prophet Mohammad comes down (from heaven), I will not become a believer.”

The gunmen, who belong to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a militant group that started off known as the Nusra Front, took Qatta on Saturday and brought him back alive in the early hours of Sunday to his wooden stand, with whiplash marks visible on his body.

“People gathered around him and a member of the fighting brigade said: ‘Generous citizens of Aleppo, disbelieving in God is polytheism and cursing the prophet is a polytheism. Whoever curses even once will be punished like this.”

“He then fired two bullets from an automatic rifle in view of the crowd and in front of the boy’s mother and father, and got into a car and left,” the report said.

Bashar Assad is a bad guy. Our government’s new allies are no better. How helping yet another terror-affiliated Islamist regime to power will benefit America has not been explained.
