Socialism And Speaking Spanish In America Via FCC Decree

The federal government shouldn’t be allowed[1] to put conditions like this on a merger,

“Comcast will make available to approximately 2.5 million low income households: (i) high-speed Internet access service for less than $10 per month; (ii) personal computers, netbooks, or other computer equipment at a purchase price below $150? and “we require Comcast-NBCU to increase programming diversity by expanding its over the-air programming to the Spanish language-speaking community, and by making NBCU’s Spanish-language broadcast programming available via Comcast’s on demand and online platforms.”

Hey, maybe it’s just me, but didn’t our government decimate our entire economy by playing these games like this with mortgages? Oh, you want to merge? Sure — all you have to do is give a bunch of people home loans who can’t afford it. How’d that work out? Oh yeah, we’re still trying to recover from it.

And let’s be honest about what this really is: Obama thinks it would be politically difficult to push something like this through Congress, so he’s simply demanding that a corporation do it. If this is worth doing, let the government do it.

Moreover, how utterly bizarre is it that as a condition of a merger, our own government is demanding more SPANISH LANGUAGE programming on American stations? Since when is it the job of our own government to promote the idea of speaking a language other than English in the United States?

The FCC is incompetent and out-of-control and it needs to be brought to heel and put in its place. The sooner that happens, the better.
