The Worlds With and Without Guns in Private Hands

Life with and without guns in the hands of law-abiding private citizens is like two alternate worlds.

Life without guns:

Dorothy Dow, 83, is in a medically-induced coma after Meriwether County [Georgia] Sheriff’s Office officials said suspects forced their way into her home, beat her, poured something on her and set her on fire. …

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith … says it’s likely three men and a woman barged in and demanded cash. He says one man started beating Dow with a gun, breaking several bones in her hand and forearm. She was then set on fire. …

“With one hand broken and her arm broken in four places, she pulled the top off of the gallon of water, poured it over her head and put out the fire,” said Beth Dow, the victim’s daughter-in-law. “She then drug herself into the den on her broken arms to get to her cellphone to call 911. She said, ‘I thought they were going to kill me’. They told her that she was never going to see her sons again.”

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects…

Life with guns:

Police say a suspect is in “grave” condition after he was shot by an elderly woman while apparently trying to break into her Dayton [Ohio] home, WHIO reports.…

Police say the suspect’s injuries are so severe that it’s unclear if he’s an adult or a juvenile. …

Police are looking for two other suspects.

Same story, different outcome.

If you are a criminal, or a politician who represents criminals, the choice is obvious: let’s have more restrictions on guns.
