Charlie Gard’s Mom Makes Final Heartbreaking Plea: Let My Son Die At Home

The end is very near now for little Charlie Gard and I weep as I write this. I can’t believe that the healthcare system stalled so long that Charlie’s last faint hope drifted away. Now, his mother is begging the high court… just let us take him home, so he can pass away where he is loved and cherished. Let us say goodbye in private and grieve. Let us give him a warm bath and put him in his little bed and hold him as he passes from this world into the next. Grant us that mercy, please.

Connie Yates is fighting her final battle with the hospital who kept them from getting life-saving treatment for their son. Both parents have lost weight and are crushed by this. Charlie will never see his first birthday, but he should be loved all he can be as he takes his final breaths. How could anyone with any common decency say no to that? The hospital is claiming they would do so if it were ‘practical’. They say that staff can’t stand by with the baby for the period he passes. Why would they care? He’s dying. They also say the parents have no clear plan. But they do and the hospital is putting hurdles in their way yet again.

From Western Journalism:

Charlie Gard’s mother has one last battle to fight. Connie Yates wants her dying infant who will soon be disconnected from his life support to be allowed to die at home.

One day after she and Chris Gard announced they had dropped their efforts to bring the 11-month-old to the U.S. for experimental treatment, she appeared in court Tuesday seeking to have Great Ormond Street Hospital be compelled to allow her son to die at home.

“We return to the court for perhaps the most difficult emotional part of this case — the circumstances in which Charlie’s passing will be conducted. The parents’ wish is to take Charlie home,” attorney Grant Armstrong told Judge Nicholas Francis at the London High Court.

“We struggle with the difficulties the hospital is placing in the way of the parents having a … short period of time before the final act in Charlie’s short life,” he said.

Yates shredded the hospital for deliberately stalling all of this. “They (the doctors) both agreed that treatment should have been started sooner. There is one simple reason for Charlie’s muscles deteriorating to the extent they are in now — time. A whole lot of wasted time,” she said. “Charlie had a real chance of getting better. It’s now unfortunately too late for him.”

The distraught mother proclaimed her son an “absolute warrior” and added, “We could not have more love and pride for our beautiful boy. His body, heart and soul may soon be gone, but his spirit will live on for eternity and he will make a difference to people’s lives for years to come.” And in a final heart-wrenching goodbye, Charlie’s mom said this: “We are now going to spend our last precious moments with our son Charlie, who unfortunately won’t make his first birthday in just under two weeks’ time. Mummy and Daddy love you so much Charlie, we always have and we always will and we are so sorry that we couldn’t save you,” she said. “Sweet dreams baby. Sleep tight our beautiful little boy. Charlie Matthew William Gard. Our little hero,” she said. I have no words… not anymore.
