Donald Trump’s promised border wall seems to be having some major problems getting built. First, funding for the wall was dropped from the current government spending bill in order to avoid a government shutdown. Now, the offices of a Texas engineering firm reportedly involved in building the wall were subjected to an FBI raid.
Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation is one of the companies working on the construction of border barriers and allegedly, is interested in working on building the border wall itself. FBI agents raided offices across the state of Texas this week, using a search warrant related to a federal grand jury investigation.
Employees were reportedly told to leave the building and not take anything with them.
Offices in San Antonio, Houston and McAllen were all targeted, as well as offices in Laredo and Webb County. While the reason for the raid has not been made public, agents confirmed they were “conducting law enforcement activity.” The statement from the FBI said, “While we can’t discuss the nature of the work we are doing, there is no public safety threat at the locations where we are present.”
Interestingly, the Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation has had tangles with grand jury investigations and lawsuits in the past. They were sued for over $21 million by the Brownsville Navigation District in 2005. The district paid Dannenbaum Engineering for the construction of an international bridge, but it never got built. Instead, the money was given to subcontractors in Mexico, who then gave the money to shell companies. A grand jury handed down an indictment, but in 2008, Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos signed an agreement with Dannenbaum Engineering closing the case. Villalobos was later arrested and convicted of racketeering and extortion.
In John Hawkins’ new book, ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches in chapter 20 of the book how to deal with the police
It’s not clear what the reason behind these FBI raids are, but the best thing Dannenbaum Engineering can do is cooperate with authorities for now.
