BREAKING: Conservatives Shocked After Sarah Palin Does THIS

by Terresa Monroe-Hamilton | November 23, 2015 11:35 am

Sarah Palin made a surprising statement[1] on an interview with Hugh Hewitt… she doesn’t seem to think the legalization of marijuana in Alaska is a big deal. I personally don’t have a problem with medical marijuana for those in pain. But I have always believed it was a very bad idea to legalize drugs. The Libertarian streak in me says just legalize it all and let it sort itself out, but drugs inherently lead to bad things and reckless behavior. Alcohol does too to a certain extent, but at least it is regulated and tested for. There are laws in place to punish those who abuse it. There would be no such rules in play for pot. Frankly, I don’t want my family using it and I don’t want it to be easy for kids to get their hands on. Palin is right about us having more pressing things to focus on, but I’m still a big ‘no’ on the legalization of marijuana. Look how bad Colorado has gotten over it.

From IJReview:

Sarah Palin may have surprised more than a few Republicans with recent comments regarding legalizing marijuana. During a recent interview[3] with conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt, the former governor of Alaska and 2008 Vice Presidential candidate said that legalization was “absolutely no big deal.”

According to a partial transcript[4] of the interview at Reason.com, Hewitt asked about the state of Alaska legalizing recreational marijuana earlier this year and Palin responded:

“We’ve got that libertarian streak in us, and I grew up in Alaska when pot was legal anyway. It was absolutely no big deal. I mean, you didn’t smoke it because your parents would strangle you. And if you were a jock and you were, you know, a Christian going to youth group, you just didn’t do it, right? I still believe that.”

“I look on the national scene and think, ‘Wow, of all things to be fighting over and battling over.’ Especially when it comes to medical marijuana, I think, ‘Hmm. It’s just not my baby.’”

Possession of small amounts of marijuana was previously decriminalized in Alaska, but voters went quite a bit farther in passing legalization by ballot measure last November.

Palin has not come out in support of nationally legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana, but she has said in the past that she thinks there are more important things for police to be focusing on.

According to Huffington Post, in 2010, Palin said[5]:

“If somebody’s gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.”

Alaska is the third state to legalize the use of recreational marijuana. Voters in Colorado and Washington passed legalization by ballot measure in 2012.

Alaska is a bit different than Colorado. The population is not nearly as dense there and you won’t find drug dealers everywhere. Crime is lower and people as a whole are law abiding. Some want to legalize pot and tax the heck out of it. That is just another way to fleece tax payers. Marijuana may be of small concern in Alaska, but it is something to take serious note of in other states. There are always going to be illegal substances out there – people find a way. The down side of drugs is addiction and pot is addicting. It also eventually fries your brain if you do enough of it. I’ve seen it in action. Stronger drugs are even worse and pot is a gateway drug. Personally, I don’t want any drug seen as okay and commonplace… not for my kids, my grandchildren or for young people in general. When people get high, they do things they regret and sometimes people die. I like Sarah Palin and stand by her, but I’m still against legalizing marijuana.
