The President[3] has always been extremely vocal about his desire to limit the number of guns that can be acquired by Americans, but after the Orlando shooting, it is clear that he and the rest of the Democrats have been waiting for this exact moment for 8 years. The pieces have fallen into place and all that’s left to do is for Obama to close the deal.

In his weekly online address[5] to the American people, President Obama spoke Saturday about the Orlando nightclub shooting and stressed that this is a time for unity.

“I visited with the families of many of the victims on Thursday. And one thing I told them is that they’re not alone. The American people, and people all over the world, are standing with them – and we always will,” he said.

The President proclaimed that the killer was a deranged individual who was influenced by propoganda from radical groups like ISIL, who he says he will continue to aggressively attempt to erradicate.

“We are and we will keep doing everything in our power to stop these kinds of attacks, and to ultimately destroy ISIL,” he said. “The extraordinary people in our intelligence, military, homeland security, and law enforcement communities have already prevented many attacks, saved many lives, and we won’t let up.”

Obama then veered into politically touchy territory, taking aim at opponents of gun control.

“Being tough on terrorism, particularly the sorts of homegrown terrorism that we’ve seen now in Orlando and San Bernardino, means making it harder for people who want to kill Americans to get their hands on assault weapons that are capable of killing dozens of innocents as quickly as possible,” he said.

The president continued, “It’s unconscionable that we allow easy access to weapons of war in these places – and then, even after we see parents grieve for their children, the fact that we as a country do nothing to prevent the next heartbreak makes no sense.”

Obama is using the age-old liberal tactic of appealing to the emotional aspect of an argument instead of the logical aspect like conservatives. More people will suffer under gun control laws than will benefit.
