UNBELIEVABLE! Navy Says Sailor Who Fired on CHATTANOOGA SHOOTER Could Face Disciplinary Action

Timothy White is the Navy officer who bravely fired back during the Chattanooga shooting. And people rightly got angry when rumors began to fly that he might be charged by the Navy for using his weapon during the attack.

A Navy official said this week that the sailor who fired back at Chattanooga shooter Mohammed Abdulazeez using an unauthorized weapon could still face criminal charges.

Pro gun rights groups were incensed over the weekend when former congressman Allen West wrote on his blog that sources told him Navy officials planned to pursue disciplinary action against White.

The Navy hit back and said the information was false, but the suggestion was enough to infuriate many who see White as a hero–whether he was breaking federal law or not–including Democratic presidential hopeful Jim Webb.

The former U.S. Senator and Secretary of the Navy under Reagan tweeted on Saturday:

‘Navy charging LCDR Tim White w/ a crime for trying to defend our sailors & Marines in #Chattanooga? He deserves a medal, not an indictment.’

Webb again tweeted on Sunday about the controversy, apparently after speaking to insiders on the matter, notes Fox News.

‘Before tweeting last night, we confirmed with a defense official that the Navy was seriously considering charging LCDR Timothy White,’ one tweet said.

‘The charge being considered is illegally discharging a firearm on federal property. No on the record comment was offered,’ read another.

Navy officials soon released a statement of their own.

‘Stories of Navy personnel being charged with an offense are not true,’ the statement said. ‘There is still a long way to go in reviewing the facts of this tragic incident, but at this time we can confirm no service member has been charged with an offense.’

What’s more, a senior Navy official told Fox that the chances that White will face charges are remote.

‘Even if remote, is there a chance [White] contributed to the chaos and got people killed? Hurt police efforts?’ the official said. ‘We are exploring that.’

Absent the official statement from the Navy, all of these are just rumors, with no factual basis whatsoever. The Navy is certainly capable of making such a bone-headed move, but until they do, we should remember that a text message and a tweet hardly serve as confirmation of these rumors, and stop jumping to conclusions until we know for sure.
