The world woke up Friday morning to discover that the US had launched missiles at Syria in a planned action for the gassing of the Syrian people. No one wants to go to war, after so much blood and treasure was spilled in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars for over a decade…but did Donald Trump order that strike to prove a point? To prove that he wasn’t Obama and that any threat that he dished out, should be taken seriously?
Well, as the media and politicians argue over what this move means, the heated exchange continues to ramp up over President Trump’s decision to bomb…and where is the controversy? You guessed it! The feckless, corrupt, United Nations, with its envoy, Deputy Ambassador Vladimir Safronkov, calling the strike a “flagrant violation of international law.”
When the U.N. Security Council meeting took place Friday morning, Deputy Ambassador Vladimir Safronkov lashed out against the U.S. “aggression”:
“The United States attacked the territory of sovereign Syria. We describe that attack as a flagrant violation of international law and an act of aggression.”
“We strongly condemn the illegitimate action by the US. The consequences of this for regional and international stability could be extremely serious.”
The Associated Press had the details of what went down, stating that Safronkov said Russia stands steadfastly by the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, calling Syria a major asset against terrorism which deserves a presumption of innocence.
Nikki Haley didn’t care much about what Safronkov had to say and responded with:
“It was time to say enough. It was time to act. [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad must never use chemical weapons again, ever.”
Haley has been butting heads with the Russians in a series of nail-biting exchanges this week. But she has also received some positive feedback recently when a colleague from the UN sent her words of encouragement.
