Everything changed this week[1] for the US when President Trump ordered a proportional strike on Syria over their chemical weapons attack on their own people. A third of those that died were children and they died a slow, agonizing death. John Bolton is correct… the Obama era of foreign policy is clearly over. Assad stepped over the red line and instead of nothing happening, he got 59 Tomahawk missiles dropped in his lap. It sent a very strong message to Syria, Russia, Iran, China and North Korea. With emphasis on North Korea.

The strike took place as President Trump was having dinner and conversation with President Xi Jinping of China. That was not by accident, it was by design. It could not have been scripted better in a Hollywood movie. Trump’s message to the Chinese is rein in North Korea, or I will take action against them. Russia and Assad lied about the chemical weapons and everything they have said and done has been deception. Just as Iran has done. As Tillerson said, we are done fooling around with North Korea.

From the Conservative Tribune[3]:

After Pyongyang’s most recent missile test, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson issued a terse statement that showed the Trump administration meant business.

“North Korea launched yet[4] another intermediate range ballistic missile,” the statement read, according to CNN[5]. “The United States has spoken enough about North Korea. We have no further comment.”

However, what happened in Syria Thursday could definitely be considered further comment. When Syria and North Korea crossed red lines[6] under Barack Obama, they received nothing but a strong warning from the administration.

And perhaps most importantly, it showed that the Trump administration was willing to stand up to those that would shelter Syria — namely, Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

In North Korea’s case, China has been the one often urging moderation on the North Korea issue. China’s president, Xi Jinping, is currently meeting with Trump down at the Mar-a-Lago resort down in Florida. Before the meeting, Trump told interviewers[7] that “if China is not going to solve North Korea, we will.”

Now, Kim Jong Un knows that isn’t an idle threat. Xi Jinping knows it, too.

President Trump has made it very clear that he is decisive and does not lead from behind. He doesn’t give warning after warning and he doesn’t run to the United Nations saying, ‘Mother, may I?’ American might is back and our military is not only building itself up again, they are being unleashed to do their jobs. ‘America First’ also meant militarily and Trump emphasized that with Syria this week.

Our enemies[8] like to make deals they never keep and until Trump’s arrival, the US acted fool enough to believe them. The only thing our enemies care about is land, power and wealth. People are saying that Iran being quiet shows they are scared and have backed down. No, it does not… it actually concerns me because they may be getting ready to launch an attack. Russia was embarrassed by all of this and may ratchet things up to hold on to territory and save face as well with the Russian people. They are saber rattling right now with warships and words, but don’t underestimate the Russians or the Chinese. They strike when it is most advantageous to do so.

Nikki Haley warned the UN yesterday that we are prepared to take further action against Syria, so this may not be done yet. “We are prepared to do more, but we hope that will not be necessary,” she told the UN Security Council. “The United States will not stand by when chemical weapons are used. It is in our vital national security interest to prevent the spread and use of chemical weapons.” It is still being determined if Russia was actually involved in the chemical attack.

Our allies are cheering the action. This is a message that should have been sent long ago. Obama stood by as Assad gassed and killed thousands of his people. Trump is obviously an entirely different kind of leader. I hope that the strike causes our enemies to back off and back down. But war is very possible here. We had better be ready no matter what.
