The Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks took to CNN today to blast the Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell over the failure of the GOP to repeal Obamacare this morning.
In the seven minute interview with Chris Cuomo, he blamed McConnell’s leadership more than any other failure on the part of the Republican Party.
In the interview, as reported in the Daily Caller, Rep. Brooks had strong words for the Senate, saying that they failed the American people.
“If they’re gonna quit, well then, by golly, maybe they ought to start at the top with Mitch McConnell leaving his position, and letting somebody new, somebody bold, somebody conservative take the reins so that they can come up with a plan that can get through the United States Senate and serve the needs of the American people,” Brooks told CNN.
“Unquestionably, the leadership at the top is responsible,” he added. “The buck stops there. If Mitch McConnell cannot get the job done on this, how is he going to get the job done on the rest of President Trump’s agenda over the next three and a half years?”
He went on to suggest that the Senate Republicans need to find a new leader. “It’s not necessarily anything bad about Mitch McConnell himself personally, but he’s got a job to do. And if he can’t do it, then as the Apprentice would say, “you’re fired,” get somebody who can.”
Currently, Rep. Brooks is running for the Senate Seat recently left open by Jeff Sessions, now that Sessions was promoted to the position of Attorney General. Currently, Luther Strange holds the seat after he was appointed to sit there in February, but it is coming up in a special election soon. His two challengers are Rep. Mo Brooks and a former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice, Roy Moore.
