Police officers just don’t get enough credit[1] for the good they do all over the nation. As temperatures soared to 110 degrees in Rock Island, Illinois, officers opened a neighborhood fire hydrant and announced that they were starting the Cops and Freezer Pops Program. You could almost hear children across the city cheering over that one. Officers pooled their own money to do the program. I think it is fantastic.

From KWQC:

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – With the heat index topping off around 110 degrees on Thursday, July 21, 2016, police in Rock Island put together a plan to help citizens stay cool.

At noon, the Rock Island Police Department planned to open a neighborhood fire hydrant at 14 ½ Street and 10th Avenue. At the same time, the Rock Island Police Department planned to start their Cops and Freezer Pops Program.

Officers are purchasing freezer pops, along with donations of freezer pops from Hy-Vee to give out to the kids. They are spreading the word all over the city that they will be handing out cold treats during the heatwave. Kids were encouraged to keep an eye out for officers patrolling their neighborhoods. Officers plan to hand out the frozen treats to children throughout city as they make their rounds. This is touching and shows that these officers love kids and their city. We can’t thank and honor them enough. Stay safe guys!
