Ann Coulter’s Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America[1] is an outstanding book that I’d highly recommend and today, it just occurred to me, that I still hadn’t put together a list of the best quotations from the book. That is being remedied with this post. Read and enjoy!
The Left’s robotic speaking style helps explain why liberals have never been able to make a dent in talk radio, despite many tries. Apparently, even the people who get bused in to their rallies can’t be paid to listen to liberals hectoring them on talk radio. Being endlessly lectured by deadly earnest liberals is boring. Ask any Cuban. — P.10
Image is all that matters to the mob. Obama can take in the biggest campaign haul from Wall Street in world history, as he did in 2008, but the mob will never believe he’s in the pocket of Wall Street bankers. The top-three corporate employers of donors to Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Rahm Emanuel were Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and JPMorgan. Six other financial giants were in the top thirty donors to the White House Dream Team: UBS AG, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and Credit Suisse Group. In 2008 alone, Goldman Sachs employees gave more to Obama — nearly $1 million – than any other employer, with the sole exception of the entire University of California, which has 230,000 employees — ten times more than Goldman. And still Republicans are called the Party of Wall Street. Bush let Lehman Brothers go under — what else do Republicans have to do? — P.10-11
Despite their perennial enthusiasm for revolution and “change” in almost any form, Le Bon says, crowds are wildly conservative when it comes to scientific progress. Want to scare a liberal? Mention nuclear power plants, genetically modified fruits, new pharmaceuticals, food irradiation, or guns with plastic frames. We could probably get a crowd of liberal protestors to scatter just by coming at them with a modern vacuum cleaner. It certainly works on dogs and cats. — P.12
Time magazine’s Walter Shapiro said that “for the first time in more than 30 years the nation has elected a President with sex appeal.” Shapiro quoted The Boomer Report editor Cheryl Russell saying “Every woman I know is having sex dreams about Bill Clinton.” (If you call nightmares about Bill Clinton dropping his pants “sex dreams,” I guess I was, too.) — P.18
Depending on who’s in the White House, the enemy of the liberal mob is either the president or the people. Americans are either enlightened truth-seekers or racist, paranoid haters. “Dissent is patriotic” only when a Republican is president, and we must have “respect for the office” only when a Democrat is president. — P.28
Out of a cast of thousands, liberal financier and convicted felon George Soros, former vice president Al Gore, and Vanity Fair’s James Wolcott compared Bush to a Nazi. In the case of Soros, it was unclear if this was meant as a compliment; Soros had helped the Nazis identify Jewish homes in his native Hungary as a boy. (Hey, we all have to start somewhere. I was on safety patrol at school when I was a little girl.) — P.29
MSNBC manufactures bogus stories and pumps them out a mile a minute, while leaping on the slightest misstatement made on Fox News as proof of malice or lunacy. — P.61
The only job of a CIA officer these days is to read foreign newspapers and leak classified information to the New York Times. It’s like a secret society of newspaper readers. The reason no one at the CIA saw 9/11 coming was that there wasn’t anything about it in the Islamabad Post. — P.65
Have you ever noticed how you have to tell liberals the same thing over and over? Liberals simply cannot learn. They’re like children who put their hands over their ears because they don’t want to listen to Mother. Most normal people just give up and let liberals enjoy their fantasies. Even when you force an individual liberal to look at evidence and admit the truth, leave him alone for a few days and he’ll go right back to spouting the same hokum. –P.76
Marie Antoinette never uttered the words “Let them eat cake.” Fittingly, that phrase came from the revolutionaries’ philosopher, Jean Jacques Rousseau, who claimed he overheard it on the lips of some nameless princess. This was written in his Confessions,” sometime before 1769 — back when Marie Antonia was still a preteen making mud strudels in Austria. But the masses were upset by a hailstorm that damaged the crops and impaired the food supply, so the French seized on this myth and it has lived on forevermore — just as it will live on forevermore that Dan Quayle apologized on a trip to Latin America that he never learned to speak Latin. — P.104
Fifty-two of the fifty-six signers of the American Declaration were orthodox Christians who believed in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, or as they would be known today, “an extremist Fundamentalist hate group.” — P.141
Rather, our founding fathers believed — as Madison wrote in Federalist 10 — that men are more likely to oppress another than to “co-operate for their common good.” In particular, he said the power to tax created the greatest temptation to “trample on the rules of justice,” because increasing someone else’s taxes “is a shilling saved to their own pockets.” — P.143
Unable to win elections by appealing to the racist mob, the anti-civil rights wing of the Democratic Party disappeared virtually overnight. In the blink of an eye, the Democrats went from being the Party of Bull Connor to being the Party of Al Sharpton. The Democrats simply traded one mob constituency for a new one. You might say they traded their white robes for a track suit and a giant medallion. — P.150
The Democratic Party has consistently favored racial discrimination, it just switched which race should be discriminated against. — P.152
By now, mob action has become so integral to the Left that it permeates every aspect of their political behavior. Don’t like Bush? Burn him in effigy. Upset the Kyoto treaty wasn’t signed by the United States? Throw rocks at cops. Don’t like the international monetary system? Smash a Starbucks window. A stripper claims she’s been raped by rich frat boys? Bang pots and pans outside of the athletes’ home. — P.153
In the four decades since Roe v. Wade took away Americans’ right to vote on abortion, eight people working at abortion clinics have been killed — versus 53 million babies. — P.166
If Charles Manson’s followers hadn’t killed Roman Polanski’s wife, Sharon Tate, Clinton would have pardoned him, too, and he’d probably be teaching at Northwestern University. — P.171
It would be as if, after fighting Democrats for a hundred years over the issue of abortion, Republicans finally got Roe v. Wade overturned, and then, out of pure political calculation, Democrats jumped on the bandwagon and demanded a federal law outlawing abortion. Some pro-life Republicans would probably object that federal law outlawing abortion is not one of Congress’s enumerated powers. On the basis of Republicans’ constitutional objections, Democrats would then reverse the entire history of the pro-life movement and start claiming the Democratic Party alone fought to end abortion in America. That is exactly what they have done with the history of civil rights. — P.182
Democrats spent a hundred years enforcing legal discrimination against blacks, or — at best — dragging their heels on enforcing black civil rights, but then turned around and crowed for fifty years about a friendly call to Mrs. King. With a few symbolic gestures, the Democrats grabbed the civil rights mantle in 1960 and never let it go. — P.186
The entire basis of liberals’ “Southern Strategy” myth is the sophisticated belief that anyone who votes Republican must be a racist. — P.187
Southerners are hawks: Sooner or later they were going to join the patriotic party. How long were Southerners going to tolerate a party that ran a peacenik like George McGovern for president in the middle of a war? Name a Southern University that’s ever banned ROTC before answering that question. (Even Duke has a ROTC program.) — P.189
Obama is hysterically defended from every little criticism as if liberals are at war with the Klan. You know, we could have really used them when Republicans were at war with the Klan. But back then, Democratic politicians were pandering to the segregationist mob. — P.190
Inasmuch as blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic, you wouldn’t expect to see a lot of them at Tea Parties. Still, the Tea Parties are not as white as Chris Matthews’s staff. They’re not as white as a Jon Stewart audience. They are not as white as Janeane Garofalo’s fans. — P.190
These days, “civil rights” is nothing but a cat’s paw for the mob’s left-wing social policies, such as abortion. Back when civil rights meant rights for blacks, Democrats were standing in the schoolhouse door. — P.194
But McVeigh was neither conservative nor Christian. This alleged right-winger was a drug taking self-proclaimed agnostic, who was thrown out of the Michigan militia and who declared, “Science is my religion,” sounding more like Janeane Garofalo than Wayne LaPierre. — P.197
Noticeably, the first abortion doctor was killed not after Roe, but twenty years later, immediately after the 1993 decision upholding Roe, Planned Parenthood v. Casey. In the first few years after Casey, about six more people were killed in attacks on abortion clinics. Most of the abortionists were shot at, depending on your point of view, had a procedure performed on them with a rifle. — P.207
Somewhat astoundingly, in the entire nation’s history, there’s never been a presidential assassination attempt by a right-winger. There have been more than a dozen by left wingers. I wouldn’t mention it — I assume we’re all against political assassinations — except liberals keep warning us about the burgeoning violence on the verge of exploding from the right wing. — P.208
Lee Harvey Oswald was Michael Moore, if Moore didn’t hate guns and wasn’t a fat, disgusting pig. — P.209
The liberal rule is: Any criminal act committed by white men with guns is a right-wing conspiracy, whereas any criminal act committed by nonwhites with guns is the government violating someone’s civil liberties. (If a black man ever shot an abortionist, liberal brains would explode.) — P.220
In the world of the liberal, as in the world of Robespierre, there are no crimes, only criminals. And the criminal is usually Sarah Palin. — P.226
Liberal logic is exactly backwards. They think: How do I know Lebron James just made a great shot? Answer: Because the cheerleaders cheered him. They have no capacity to reason in the absence of thunderous applause or booing from the bleachers indicating what they should think. — P.252
Jon Stewart transmits the party line to idiots, who sit in the audience of The Daily Show and maniacally applaud everything he says. They don’t get all the jokes, but they know who they’re supposed to hate. –P.252
Mobs ‘stand in need of ready-made opinions on all subjects,” Le Bon says, and the ‘popularity of these opinions is independent of the measure of truth or error they contain.” The power of prestige “entirely paralyses our critical faculty, and fills our souls with astonishment and respect.” The weak-minded just go with the crowd, ridicule the designated scapegoats, and then pass out awards to one another for their courage. — P.263
American liberals were hysterically opposed to war with Germany — as long as Stalin was allied with Hitler. Only when Germany attacked Mother Russia were these stone-cold pacifists seized with war fever. — P.268
Finley Peter Dunne described a fanatic as ‘a man that does what he thinks the Lord would do if He knew the facts of the case.’ Inasmuch as liberals don’t believe in God, it’s a one-step process: ‘What would I do?’ –P.274
Obama has repeatedly appealed for votes by saying that the difference between the parties is that Democrats ‘believe that I am my brother’s keeper.’ If he were our brother, that would be a lovely sentiment. But he’s our president, the commander in chief, the nation’s chief law enforcement officer — which makes the statement terrifying. — P.275
It’s an obsession with the Democrats to nationalize everything: health care, welfare, the speed limit, abortion, the drinking age — so there’s no escape. Like all totalitarians, the Democrats’ position is: We thought up something that we know will work better than anything anyone else has done for the last 30,000 years. We don’t know why no one else has thought of it. We must be smarter. This is why the history of liberalism consists of replacing things that work with things that sounded good on paper. — P.276
As usual, the Democrats’ solution to problems created by government intervention was more government intervention. This is like trying to sober up by having another drink — except at least trying to sober up by drinking more is fun. — P.277
American liberals have given us ‘hate crimes,’ ‘disparate impact’ rules, ‘sexists,’ and ‘bigots.’ Acts are irrelevant; your motives are on trial. You are presumed guilty and acquittals are rare. — P.280
They have accused Thomas Jefferson of having an affair with his slave Sally Hemings in order to help Bill Clinton in the middle of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. This was in defiance off evidence that overwhelmingly suggests that Hemings’s only Jefferson consort was the president’s younger brother, Randolf, who frequently socialized with the slaves. — P.283
Even the flaky Thomas Jefferson, who was not an orthodox Christian, was a virtual Jerry Falwell compared with today’s Democrats. Jefferson said, ‘Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God?’ — P.286
The mob will never support defending America, only those who seek to undermine it. The mob will never side with those who seek to protect human life, only those who seek to destroy it. The mob will never support the creation of wealth, only those who seek to punish it. The mob will never defend traditional morality, only those who seek to subvert it. And if you oppose the mob, it will come after you like a pack of ravenous hyenas. There is no coherence to the Left’s positions, except its will to destroy. — P.288
It’s not agreement with liberals on a particular issue that wins their phony ‘respect,’ it’s attacking other conservatives. This is the basis of the expression ‘Strange New Respect,’ which is what liberals accord those conservatives who so crave liberal approval, they will gratuitously attack fellow conservatives. – P.289
Liberals who do not want to be manhandled by conservatives must do the following: Don’t physically attack a Republican. Conservatives who want to avoid being manhandled by liberals must do…what? Not give a speech at your party convention? Never roll your car window down in the presence of liberals? Not attend your own candidates’ debate? Never give a speech at a college campus? Not attend the Bridgehampton arts fair? — P.292
