This brought tears to my eyes[1]. I dare you to watch this video and not be moved! I have always loved the BYU Men’s Chorus… their voices are simply heavenly inspired. But then, I’ve always been a sucker for a hymn. They never fail to touch my soul and bring forth the love I have had for God my whole life. The sheer goodness in the faces of these men is uplifting all by itself. They are so truly faithful, you can tell they can barely contain their hand movements during the song. They obviously want to raise their hands and voices to heaven in joy. Surely listening to them does bring us closer to Thee.
From Qpolitical:
What was written as a hymn in the early 1800s, became even more known when it was reportedly sung as the Titanic sank in 1912. But that doesn’t mean it’s a sad song, rather “Nearer, My God, To Thee” is an inspirational song filled with hope and comfort through hard times.
This version of the hymn is so amazing. It really moved us as the BYU Vocal Point group harmoniously sang a cappella, complete with rhythm and dynamic sound. Make sure you turn your volume up because you don’t want to miss a moment of this performance!
One of the most stirring stanzas of the hymn is the fourth one:
Then with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise, out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise; So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
To be given the gift of song and voice and to use it in praising the Lord must be one of the most soul-inspiring acts in one’s life. It truly restores your faith in mankind and for that briefest of moments, wipes away all the evil and grief surrounding us and brings us into the light. They use just their voices to glorify God and all that He stands for. What a wonderful, heartwarming performance.
