While the American left is focused on “marching for science” and blocking “hateful” speakers like Ann Coulter from speaking at college campuses, the adults are focusing on how to deal with the real threats to our country.
Like North Korea.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke to the UN on Friday and called for global pressure on North Korea. This would be an effort to convince the small, angry country to give up its plans to create a nuclear arsenal:
“All options for responding to future provocations must remain on the table,” Tillerson said during a special United Nations session called to discuss the North Korean crisis. “Diplomatic and financial leverage or power will be backed up by willingness to counteract North Korean aggression with military action, if necessary.”
He also called for the United Nations to honor their commitments regarding North Korea and end diplomatic relations. Additionally, they have agreed to impose sanctions on the country, which would further isolate them financially:
“This new pressure campaign will be swiftly implemented and painful to North Koran interest,” Tillerson said.
“But the catastrophic effects of a North Korean nuclear strike outweigh any economic benefits. We must be willing to face the hard truths and mark hard choices right now to prevent disastrous outcomes in the future. Business as usual is not an option.”
In Right Wing News owner John Hawkins’ new book, 101 Things All Young Adults Should Know, he discussed the wisdom behind the phrase: “be nice until it’s time to not be nice.” For too long we have played nice with North Korea, hoping that simply entertaining the notions of the psychopath in charge might keep him from doing anything stupid. We’ve long past the point of being nice. Now it’s time to not be nice.
If it comes down to an “us or them” scenario, it’s going to be them.
