This is simply insane. When I first heard this last night on Tucker Carlson’s show, I thought it was a joke. Sadly, it isn’t. ESPN pulled an announcer because his name is Robert Lee. Making matters even worse and more racist, the gentleman is Asian-American. Dude… you pulled an announcer because his name resembled that of a civil war Confederate general – Robert E. Lee? That’s even worse than the time they fired a guy for saying ‘chink in the armor’. If you watch ESPN, and I do not, you really should stop. This is just embarrassing, groveling political correctness.
ESPN lost its fricking mind after the Charlottesville tragedy. Did you know that only 4 percent of sportscasters at ESPN voted for Trump? They are all leftists and boy, does it show. Lee has been with ESPN since 2016. They moved him to the Youngstown State game at Pittsburgh because they felt it was too triggering to have him announce the football game at the University of Virginia. This deserves my favorite graphic – bang away, y’all:
From Fox News:
In the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Va., ESPN decided to pull one of its announcers from calling a University of Virginia football game — because his name is Robert Lee.
Lee, an Asian-American sportscaster who started with the network in 2016, was moved to a different game “simply because of the coincidence of his name,” ESPN said, referencing the Confederate general Robert E. Lee.
On Aug. 12, violence broke out at a protest from a white-nationalist group opposing the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville. A driver ultimately rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing one woman and injuring more than a dozen other people, police said.
ESPN, which has faced accusations of liberal bias that some observers believe has led to a downtick in viewership, said it moved its announcer to the Youngstown State game at Pittsburgh.
The network’s full statement: “We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name. In that moment it felt right to all parties. It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play-by-play for a football game has become an issue.”
No wonder ESPN’s viewership has massively plummeted. I can’t take it. The stupid is strong with this one. I do believe Americans are capable of telling the difference between an Asian sportscaster and a dead Confederate general. We don’t need ESPN to fret over that for all of us. Sheesh. ESPN says that assignments are switched all the time. I bet… with that kind of hair trigger, they must be spastic in assignments. I feel sorry for anyone working there.
The profound stupidity of this move staggers me. Seriously. The move is so ridiculous, it’s beyond parody. Frankly, it’s Orwellian. The social justice warriors at ESPN have waltzed right into cuckoo land. Now, anyone can be called a white-wing nationalist… just as Maxine Waters just labeled Ben Carson for being in the Trump administration. Then you can be like ESPN and take an Asian announcer who is obviously not a white nationalist and punish him for having the name of a deceased Confederate general. This is why the whole white privilege, reverse racism thing is so strong with this crowd… they’ve slipped through the Looking Glass and are now having tea with the Mad Hatter.
ESPN just emailed me the same statement Clay Travis got. pic.twitter.com/BE5YCKx3qs
