MELTDOWN: PURGE at Liberal ESPN as Network Continues to Suffer

ESPN has just announced that after losing 10 million subscribers, they must now lay off dozens of production and technical staffers.

In a memo from the President, John Skipper, he explains that the 150 employees will be terminated due to the digital age, or something:

“The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and re-direct resources.”

What, so nothing to do with the National Anthem protests at the NFL and the heavy politicization of the network?

Last year, just after the election, we wrote that the network’s “perceived move leftward” has been sensed by their audience members. Bob Ley, a host on ESPN since 1979, said that the leftist push undertaken by the broadcaster has alienated conservative audience members and that while “the nature of sports” means that sometimes the talk will turn to politics or cultural issues, its focus should remain on sports[2] in order to keep the audience from being exposed to any internal left-wing pushes.

Then, in April of 2017, we wrote that their falling ratings meant that approximately 100 people would be laid off from the network, with some of the blame at the time being attributed to Caitlyn Jenner earning their “Woman of the Year” award and their endorsement of Black Lives Matter. At that time, the news was still hot with the firing of their host (and former pitcher for the Red Sox) Curt Schilling… earning a pink slip when he did not support the big issue at the time, which was transgender bathrooms. They had even lauded Barack Obama with an award[3] during their tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.

And then, just a few months ago, ESPN’s Jemele Hill implied that Donald Trump was a white supremacist[4] and gave a non-apology apology on Twitter afterwards.

Right now, ESPN plans to open another studio, this time in New York. As well, they want to “streamline” their formats and provide coverage on Snapchat. While older audiences tend to prefer Facebook, Snapchat and other similar services are preferred by younger audiences, so it sounds like ESPN is looking to diversify their reach not by pleasing their older audiences (which have the money to subscribe at network rates and to buy merchandise from sports leagues), instead they’re skipping down to make sure that younger millennials have access to their particular brand of left-wing, anti-Trump, anti-American sports coverage.

ESPN currently has approximately 8,000 employees all over the world.
