Oakland Raiders Legend LEVELS Marshawn Lynch for Continuing Anthem Protests

Marshawn Lynch ticked off[1] everyone by sitting during the National Anthem at a recent game to make a political statement after the domestic terror attack in Charlottesville, Virginia by a white supremacist last Sunday. Lynch is a gifted running back for the Raiders in the NFL. But one of his fellow football stars took exception with his actions and let him know it. Former Raider and Heisman trophy winner Tim Brown was not happy about Lynch’s antics. In an interview with TMZ Sports, he called Lynch out over it.

Brown doesn’t understand why Lynch would bring negativity to his team this way… he says it is totally unnecessary and uncalled for. I agree all the way on that one. He pointed out that football is where people go to get away from all this crap and he’s right. No one is interested in anyone else’s political stance on the gridiron.

From the Independent Review Journal:

NFL player and new Oakland Raider Marshawn Lynch[3] sparked controversy on Sunday after sitting down for the national anthem.

Lynch is one of the best[4] at his position in the NFL. The running back who made a name for himself on the Seattle Seahawks is a force to reckoned with on the football field.

But former Raider and Heisman trophy winner Tim Brown is not pleased with Lynch taking up former pro football player Colin Kaepernick’s cause. During an interview with TMZ Sports[5], Brown called Lynch to the carpet.

Brown said:

“You know why man, why, why bring this to yourself. He has the perfect thing going on in Oakland. Why bring negativity to this incredibly positive situation?”

Brown followed up, “I just don’t get it. I understand these guys man, they try to make statements. They’re trying to be a part of this world but football is where people go to get away from all of that stuff.”

Brown was asked point blank if the move by Lynch was a distraction to the team: “Well, I mean you know I’m sure everyone is going to say that it’s not. But I’m sure everybody will tell they will have to sit and talk about it and answer to it, also. Either he’s going to choose to represent himself and do this deal, or he’s going to say you know, ‘Hey I’m here to help the Raiders win a football game, win a championship if I can.’” He’s right again… either Lynch is there for his team and to play football, or he’s there as a political activist. Choose wisely.

Brown also said that Lynch is free to do whatever he wants outside of the stadium and he was even sure the team would help him. I bet. Brown said that he hopes to see Lynch stand for the National Anthem at his next game. “I hope this is a preseason thing. He’s not suiting up, he’s not whatever. I just hope he’s just ignoring from that standpoint. I just would hate to see this season be marred with people protesting him and that kind of stuff.” Because if he keeps sitting it out, I guarantee the Raiders will get boycotted and it will definitely hurt them.
