BREAKING: Trump wins at the Supreme Court! Travel ban on six Muslim countries can take full effect

The Supreme Court has spoken and they have stated that the travel ban is fully legal, Constitutional and will take full effect. The decision came down in a 7-2 ruling in which Ruth Bader-Ginsburg and Sonya Sotomayor were the only two Justices to give dissenting opinions on the matter.

The travel ban (which has been incorrectly dubbed the “Muslim Ban” by liberals) effectively bans travel from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, all of which are Muslim-majority countries. However, this ban does not single out Muslims specifically, as Muslims from other countries are allowed to travel to the United States normally.

The ban prevents even family members like grandparents and cousins from visiting their relatives in the US. Basically, anyone who doesn’t have a “bona fide” relationship to an American citizen is barred from entering the country. This has been troublesome for many, who view grandparents as important role models in their families and believe they should not be included in this ban.

The ban will take effect despite the legal challenges against it in two lower courts, The San Francisco-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia. These two courts will be holding hearings regarding the legality of the move during this week.

Depending on how quickly they reach a decision, the Supreme Court should be able to hear and decide upon the issue no later than June of 2018.

This is a vindication for Trump who pushed this travel ban early in his Presidency, but found that it met heavy resistance when brought to lower courts. Many Republicans argued that these countries were terror hubs and that allowing anyone in who is from said countries would be a danger to America. Liberal Democrats claim that the actions “of a few” terrorists shouldn’t burden the entire religion of Islam and that this ban unfairly targets Muslims.

The truth is, America is just doing what it can to protect itself from a future like England or France, where terror-related attacks are taking place with worrying and increased frequency. It may seem “mean,” but a lot of things that are good for you are considered “mean,” like not letting a 15 year-old go to a party where there will be alcohol, or making your toddler eat their vegetables. This isn’t forever and it’s definitely only bigoted against terrorists. I don’t know of any sane person who has a problem with that.
