Taxed Enough Already: USA Today & Everyone Trumpeting Low Tax Rates

Don’t you just love the Democrat loving, not-so-concealed bias of the press? Today, they’re seen priming the pump for tax increases[1]:

Federal, state and local taxes – including income, property, sales and other taxes – consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century. The overall tax burden hit bottom in December at 8.8.% of income before rising slightly in the first three months of 2010.

“The idea that taxes are high right now is pretty much nuts,” says Michael Ettlinger, head of economic policy at the liberal Center for American Progress. The real problem is spending, counters Adam Brandon of FreedomWorks, which organizes Tea Party groups. “The money we borrow is going to be paid back through taxation in the future,” he says.

Actually, the problem is spending. And because Americans are not complete morons, they realize that tax cuts can only go so far and that the government will eventually raise taxes, and a lot, to meet the needs of an aging population and greedy welfare state.

Robert Samuelson talks about this welfare state here[2]:

If only a few countries faced these problems, the solution would be easy. Unlucky countries would trim budgets and resume growth by exporting to healthier nations. But developed countries represent about half the world economy; most have overcommitted welfare states. They might defuse the dangers by gradually trimming future benefits in a way that reassured financial markets. In practice, they haven’t done that; indeed, President Obama’s health program expands benefits. What happens if all these countries are thrust into Greece’s situation? One answer — another worldwide economic collapse — explains why dawdling is so risky.

So, we’re already taxed enough, you elite leftist glad-handlers. And the welfare is expanding and fat. And it’s going to get worse because America is getting old.

There seems to be a disconnect between actions and consequences here. What the Tea Party folks see is the consequences and they want to change them for the future, now, by cutting the size of the state–something that the Democrats and leftists generally are averse to.

Why?

Because they are neo-socialists and love the welfare state. It solves all the problems a mean mommy and inattentive daddy didn’t give. But it’s an impossible situation.

The state is huge. People are out of work. And those who have jobs are scraping by. The ONLY solution: cut the size and scope of government largesse.

It is a must or the country will suffer economic collapse. More taxes, at this point, will pinch suffering businesses who will lay off more employees who will not be able to spend because they have no money.

See the problem? Of course you do. You have common sense.

So the USA Today can throw their not-so-subtle pitch about higher taxes, but anyone with deductive reasoning knows where this path will lead.

The Tea Partiers are right. We’re taxed enough already. How about cutting spending? How about that gets a try before we turn into Europe?
