The April 15, 2010 Myrtle Beach Tea Party (W/ 13 Pics + Video And Text Of My Speech)

Yesterday, I attended the Myrtle Beach Tea Party. It’s the third one I’ve been to and the crowd looked even bigger than before. Although I’m terrible with crowd estimates, I’d say 400-500 people were there over the course of the afternoon. That may not sound like a lot of people, but Myrtle Beach only has a population of roughly 29,000 people. So percentage wise, that’s not bad at all.

It’s also worth noting that there’s a Republican congressman retiring in this district and that has led to a wide-open race between 9, count ’em, 9 different Republicans for the seat. Most of them were there speaking at the rally. Initially, I was only planning to attend, but I was asked to give a short speech, I agreed, and the rest is history….well, mostly.

What follows is my speech on video, the text, and the pictures I took at the Tea Party. Enjoy!

It’s fantastic to be here at the Myrtle Beach Tea Party, but I have to admit I’m a little worried. You see, I was watching MSNBC the other night and I learned that you Tea Partiers are dangerous folks. I understand you’re the people who’ve been making poor Keith Olbermann wet his bed in terror every single night. Also, just look at poor Rachel Maddow. You folks have obviously gotten the poor woman so upset that she’s shaved off almost all of her hair.

So, why do they call us dangerous? Why do they call us a mob? Why do we actually have liberals across the country planning to come to these rallies today with racist signs in an effort to make us look bad? For a simple reason: because we are dangerous to the ambitions of the far left-wing in this country.

They will tell you that people like us are radical. Well, if we’re radicals, it’s only because pointing out the obvious truth in America has become a radical act. It shouldn’t take Albert Einstein to tell you that this country can’t afford to spend hundreds of billions of dollars it doesn’t have every year. You don’t have to be Thomas Edison to look at the sorry state of health care in nations with socialized medicine and know that it’s not going to work in this country either.

I also can’t speak for anyone else, but I don’t want any of these kids in the audience as my indentured servant when I’m 70 years old. I don’t want them barely scraping by, having to get a 2nd job to pay for my Medicare, for my Social Security, for the debt my generation has run up, and for every cockeyed new program Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi can dream up between now and then.

That’s why, until BOTH PARTIES start to listen, we’ve got to keep having Tea Parties, we’ve got to keep going to the ballot box — where a lot of politicians are going to get a very rude awakening this November — and we’ve got to keep giving them hell until they have a come-to-Jesus moment and start listening to the American people again.

When we do take our country back — and we will, if we refuse to quit — it won’t be because of the talk radio hosts. It won’t be because of Fox News. It won’t be because of bloggers like me. It’ll be because of the people who love their country enough to come to these Tea Parties and speak out. Don’t let the New York Times, Harry Reid and all the rest of them get away with demonizing you. Don’t let them convince you to give up on having a better future for your children. Hang in there. Keep fighting. Stand tall. And by God, we will turn this country around. Thank you.
