At least 60 Christians[1] were killed in an explosion in a crowded public park in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Sunday evening, media reports said, quoting security officials. Well over 250 were injured and the numbers are sure to go up. They were celebrating Easter.[2] The attack appeared to have been carried out by a suicide bomber in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, where families were picnicking for the Easter holiday, a senior police official told the Associated Press. “Most of the dead and injured are women and children,” said Mustansar Feroz, superintendent of police for the area, according to the news agency Reuters.

From Gateway Pundit:

An explosion occurred in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park of Iqbal Town on Sunday evening, killing at least 53 people and injuring over a 100, police said.

Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police Dr Muhammad Iqbal said the explosion was a suicide attack.

Eye witnesses said there were pools of blood and scattered body parts in the park, where a large number of families, especially women and children, were present on a Sunday evening.

Rescue officials and police rushed to the explosion site in a renowned residential area, where at least 20 people are reportedly injured.

Witnesses described body parts scattered in the park in the wake of the attack, which occurred near an exit gate, Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper reported. Pakistan has suffered for years from Islamist militancy, including a Taliban insurgency in the tribal areas along the Afghanistan border. So you can bet it was Islamic terrorism… that’s if you had any doubts to begin with. One eyewitness said there was chaos, with a stampede breaking out and children separated from their parents in the rush to escape. Another told Pakistan’s Geo TV station he was heading towards a ride with his wife and two children when he heard a huge bang and all four of them were thrown to the floor. A state of emergency was imposed on hospitals in Lahore after the blast. Television footage on private networks broadcast images of rescue workers and ambulances rushing to the park and ferrying victims to hospitals. Distraught relatives milled about in hospital corridors as the wounded were treated. “There was no prior intelligence report about the attack,” Muhammad Usman, the district coordination officer in Lahore, told reporters. Authorities are of course claiming that Christians were not targeted. I’d laugh except this isn’t funny… it’s deadly serious. No word on who’s taking credit yet.
