I have a pretty good idea how the 21st century works and (pause) there’s not a single successful country on the planet that operates on the theory that the government is the problem (pause) not one. Every successful country has both a strong private economy and a smart, strong government that work together to provide economic opportunity, educational opportunity, provide decent health care and get into the future. — Bill Clinton
Liberals are terrified of Herman Cain. He is a strong conservative black man. Look at the way they go after Allen West and Michael Steele and they aren’t even running against Obama. They are terrified of strong conservative black men. — Ann Coulter
Liberals step on black conservatives early and often because they can’t have black children thinking, “Hmmm, the Republicans have some good ideas; maybe I’m a Republican.”
The basic setup is:
Step 1: Spend 30 years telling blacks that Republicans are racist and viciously attacking all black Republicans.
Step 2: Laugh maliciously at Republicans for not having more blacks in their party. — Ann Coulter
Our blacks are so much better than their blacks. To become a black Republican, you don’t just roll into it. You’re not going with the flow…and that’s why we have very impressive blacks in the Republican party. — Ann Coulter
One of the things about Herman Cain is, I think that he makes that white Republican base of the party feel okay, feel like they are not racist because they can like this guy. I think he giving that base a free pass. And I think they like him because they think he’s a black man who knows his place. I know that’s harsh, but that’s how it sure seems to me. — Karen Finney
And that leaves Romney. Not since Bob Dole told Republicans in 1995, “I’m willing to be another Ronald Reagan if that’s what you want me to be,” has there been a GOP front-runner who seemed more out of sync with his party’s passions. Many conservatives are reconciled to a Romney victory the way they are to the inevitability of catching the seasonal flu. — Jonah Goldberg
Up to 40 million Chinese people still live in caves. That’s more than the populations of Texas and Illinois, combined. In fairness, a fraction of these caves are apparently pretty nice, complete with electricity and well-compacted dirt floors. But that’s grading on a curve because, well, they’re still caves.
Meanwhile, 21 million Chinese live below what the Communist Party calls the “absolute poverty” line. That sounds pretty good if you have in mind our poverty line, which is just under $11,000 per year for an individual and roughly $22,000 for a family of four. The absolute poverty rate in China is $90 a year, or $7.50 per month. And 35 million live on less than $125 per year. Hundreds of millions of Chinese live on $1 or $2 a day. — Jonah Goldberg
Call it the Gaddafi Rule: Give it up and go, or one day find death by “Libyan crossfire.” Followed by a Libyan state funeral. That’s when you lie on public view for four days, half-naked in a meat locker. — Charles Krauthammer
(Occupy Wall Street says) ‘Wall Street fat cats got a bailout so now I want one too.’ And the correct answer is no one is entitled to a bailout…Barack Obama is owned by Wall Street. The fat cats, as he calls them, they’re his friends. They’re his pals. That’s where he gets his campaign donations. And he’s very generous about giving these cats their cat nip – bigger returns on their investments in bailouts. — Sarah Palin
I’ve been as consistent as human beings can be. —Mitt Romney
