It is only now, nearly eight full years after Bush left the White House and the public eye, that Americans are truly getting a glimpse[1] into that fateful day that forever changed the course of his presidency.

From the Independent Journal:

All of the photos were recently released through a Freedom of Information Act Request, and are stored at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas.

Without further ado, here are 12 never-before-seen photos that chronicle President Bush’s day following the attacks on New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.

Upon hearing the news, the president and his staff was escorted to a holding room in the school to prepare for the first of several addresses he would give to the nation, in which he said:

“I have spoken to the vice president, to the governor of New York, to the director of the FBI, and have ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families — and to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act. Terrorism against our nation will not stand.”

For security reasons, President Bush was immediately flown from Sarasota to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. The photo above shows him watching TV footage of the attacks from his office aboard Air Force One.

Before it was deemed safe for the president to return to Washington, D.C., Bush flew to Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska for a few hours.

He can be seen in the above photo being consoled by Lieutenant Colonel Cindy Wright of the White House Military Office during that leg of the journey.

Bush was not a perfect President. No President is. But he was phenomenal in rallying Americans to protect and fight for their nation, and for each other. The Left will continue to demonize the man. That’s clear. But they were not President of the United States of America when Islamic Terrorists flew two airliners into the World Trade Center, another into the Pentagon and another into a field in Pennsylvania, all of which cost the lives of thousands of Americans. They will never know or feel the weight and burden of highest office of the land at the time. But George W. Bush has and will continue to until the day he dies. He rose to the calling. An act we have yet seen from President Barack Obama these last seven years.
