Gunfire erupted Monday morning in a high school cafeteria located in Madison, Ohio. The story is still developing[1] but NBC affiliates are on the scene reporting, and this is what we know so far…
[2]
According to WLWT, the shooting broke out around 11:20 a.m. CT at Madison Junior/Senior High School, which serves 1,600 students in grades 7 through 12.
School and community relations coordinator AJ Huff said the violence unfolded in a shared cafeteria. Two students were shot and two others suffered shrapnel wounds or were hurt while trying to leave the building, WLWT reports.
One person was taken into custody, Madison Local Schools posted on Facebook shortly after the shooting. It’s not clear if that person is a student.
Officials said the school was on lockdown and all other students were safe. Junior and senior high school students were dismissed just before noon, according to the school system.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich told reporters that “obviously it’s a tragedy.”
“But thank God no life was lost,” he said.

Administrators notified the parents of injured students and asked others to avoid school grounds.
“Our prayers to everyone in Madison during this tragic time,” Middletown Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw wrote on Facebook.
“I just cleared the scene there and it is hectic.”
Huff said the school’s emergency training paid off Monday.
“It has been valuable for our teachers and administrators,” Huff explained. “When I got the call, I immediately knew what to do, how to handle things, and students knew how to react.”
I cannot imagine being a parent that receives information that there has been a shooting at their school… prayers of comfort for them.
