‘Duck Dynasty’s Missy Robertson Tells Engaged Son He ‘Can’t Come Home’. Here’s the Powerful Reason Why

Getting kicked out of the family home is never easy. But there are times it needs to be done for the good of our kids. Would you do the same thing to your son?

From the Independent Journal:

In December, Reed Robertson, son of “Duck Dynasty” stars Jase and Missy Robertson, got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Brighton Thompson.

Several months later, Missy Robertson posted to her blog that she told Reed he can’t come home:

“Reed, I love you with all my heart, but once you say ‘I do’ this fall, you can’t come home. And Brighton, you’re stuck with him.”

Why would a mother say such a thing to her son? Mrs. Robertson revealed the background behind her decision, which begins with her father confronting her the week before her own wedding to Jase:

So, when he stopped me in the hallway of our house one day during that festive week, took me by the shoulders, faced me head on and stated, “Missy, I need to tell you something very important”, it definitely got my attention. He looked me dead in the eyes and said, “When you get married on Friday, you can’t come home.”

What? Where in the world did this come from? Maybe I didn’t hear him correctly. So, I asked him to clarify.

Again, he said, “You are not welcome to come back to this house to live after Friday night.”

As Robertson reeled from the news, her dad explained the reasoning behind his edict:

“When you have problems with your husband, and you will, you’ll need to work them out. Your mom and I will be here to help you however we can, but you’ll have to go home to your husband.”

Obviously, this comes from a mother’s heart of love for her son and his fiancé and an understanding of what marriage is all about. If our adult children understood they will need to work out their differences with their spouse instead of being able to run back home to mom and dad, maybe a lot more marriages would stay together. Way to go Missy! And best wishes to the new couple!
