The latest study from the Pew Research Center doesn’t give an optimistic 2008 forecast for the GOP. Among the findings from their research piece “Trends in Political Values and Core Attitudes 1987-2007” is that more than half the country either identifies as a Democrats or leans toward the Democrat Party. Only 35% identify themselves as Republican or lean toward the GOP.
The study also said that the political climate that “nurtured the Republican resurgence in the mid-1990s have moderated….The proportion of Americans who support traditional social values has edged downward since 1994, while the proportion of Americans expressing strong personal religious commitment also has declined modestly.”
