Two witnesses jumped into action to heroically stop a man who had abducted a seven year-old girl in order to have sex with her, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Raeshawn Perez, 26, was detained and arrested in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday and charged with aggravated kidnapping, according to local media reports.
Seven witnesses saw Perez with the girl and two Good Samaritans chased him down and tackled him until the police arrived, according to the probable cause affidavit cited by the Times.
The girl’s mother notified the police from the 1400 block of Elizabeth Avenue on Saturday afternoon, stating that a man had abducted her daughter, according to the affidavit. The mother said that the man headed east and so the police followed, and they found Perez being restrained by a couple of Good Samaritans about half a mile away.
A neighbor who lives down the block on Elizabeth Avenue saw Perez dragging the girl along and when the mother ran up frantic, saying her daughter had been kidnapped, he and his girlfriend jumped in a car to chase the suspect down. The couple’s son located Perez just a few streets away trying to shove the girl through the window of a deserted home.
When Perez took notice of the Good Samaritans, he gave up his endeavor and tried to run before the couple tackled him to the ground and held him until police arrived. Perez was arrested and later admitted to detectives he wanted to have sex with the little girl before he planned to take her back home, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Perez is currently being held at the Wichita County Jail with bail set at a surprisingly measly cost of $50,000.
Brandi Young of the Wichita Falls Police Department soothed over residents who were concerned and called it an ‘isolated incident’. The police also took the time to issue tips against child abductions on their blog.
