This really is so sad on every side. This young man struggled with autism and began to obsess over a very tragic plan. This young man is British, but had been living in the United States for over a year and a half. He began obsessing with the election and especially with Donald Trump. For well over a year he began to plan an assassination of the presidential candidate. Luckily for everyone involved his plan was pretty unfounded.

Michael Sanford, 20, traveled from California over to Las Vegas days before Donald Trump spoke at a rally there. He went to a shooting range and learned how to shoot a gun for the first time in his life. It was the first time he ever held and shot a gun. Then at a Trump rally, he grabbed a gun from a police officer and tried to use it to shoot Donald Trump. Luckily he did not come even close to succeeding.

He made it very clear following being detained that his goal was to shoot and kill Donald Trump. He even said he was willing to die in the effort.

His mother spoke out about the incident and defended the actions of her son, saying:

‘(Michael) means everything to me,’ she said.

‘He made a very bad mistake, a huge error of judgment. It breaks my heart to see him in this environment.

‘So many people back in England know this is not Michael. Everyone knows he’s a good person at heart.

‘He needs to get psychiatric help back at home. He’s very remorseful for what he did.’

Either way, his actions spoke pretty loudly this summer when he attempted to assassinate a man. He will serve a few more months in custody before being deported to Britain.
