No, Really, The Exotic Vacation Trip Was About AGW

Anyone ever notice that some of the biggest supporters of anthropogenic global warming seem to be the biggest CO2 offenders? Traveling all around the globe in private jets, taking limo’s, staying at fancy hotels, having power hog homes, and, oh, let’s not forget all great vacation locations and other areas of interest they head to. Remember the IPCC conference in lovely Bali? This year, Copenhagen. A few Congress Critters have joined in the action in a bipartisan manner

When 10 members of Congress wanted to study climate change[1], they did more than just dip their toes into the subject: They went diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. They also rode a cable car through the Australian rain forest, visited a penguin rookery and flew to the South Pole.

The 11-day trip — with six spouses traveling along as well — took place over New Year’s 2008. Details are only now coming to light as part of a Wall Street Journal analysis piecing together the specifics of the excursion.

Lawmakers say the trip offered them a valuable chance to learn about global warming and to monitor how federal funds are spent. “The trip we made was more valuable than 100 hearings,” said Rep. Baird, its leader. “Are there members of Congress who take trips somewhat recreationally? Perhaps. Is this what this trip was about? Absolutely not.”

Snort. Of course it wasn’t. The trips were taken by 7 Democrats and 3 Republicans, all paid for by the American People.

On the last night of their 11-day trip, the lawmakers stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. The spokesman for Mr. Baird said he would have been “every bit as happy camping as staying in a hotel.”

The lowest price I can find for the hotel on Orbitz is $300 for a base room with 1 person. I suspect we will see more of these types of tax payer funded vacations disguised as climate change fact finding missions in the future.

I wonder who paid for all the carbon offsets?
