On Halloween, President Obama made a speech at Rhode Island College in Providence, RI, proclaiming that big government economic policies, such as universal, taxpayer-funded preschool education, best ensure my gender’s advancement in the workplace. Isn’t it ironic how liberal men always claim conservative men speak for women, yet they don’t do the same, eh?
Sometimes, someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. That’s not a choice we want Americans to make.
Sure, the changing nature of our economy over the last few decades has resulted in more women needing to be in the workforce to adequately provide for their children. In fact, I come from a household where both my parents worked full-time to provide for my sister and I. We turned out just fine.
However, some families are blessed to be in a circumstance where the mother can stay at home to raise children because the father can provide enough income to sustain the entire family. As Dr. Laura puts it in her book In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms, there is nothing wrong with women who choose to stay at home to raise their children, a message that should be sent to President Obama.
The President of the United States should not use his position of power to tell us what is best for us. However, this is not surprising given how the president and his current administration think all women should forgo independence and self-sufficiency, and instead latch onto the government for the fulfillment of their every need.
For an administration that claims to champion “women’s rights” and stand for “female empowerment,” it actually sets my gender back with its big government policies and empty promises. Instead of letting women in my generation be unjustly used as a political prop by the Democrat Party, we should empower them to think for themselves, not in line with a misogynist political party that only sees us as sexual objects who can be exploited with statist economic policies.
