As the nation descends further into madness and #BlackLivesMatter preaches violence against police, it’s important to remember that there are many, many great police officers out there who are trying to make a difference. One officer did exactly that:[1]

A homeless domestic violence victim who was hungry and at the end of her rope sought refuge in the lobby of a Maryland police station with her one-year-old daughter last week as a last resort.

Thanks to the kindness of Prince George’s County Police Department officer Corporal Che’ Atkinson, the woman and her daughter spent a night in a Hyattsville hotel instead of on the street.

Cpl Atkinson was on duty at the District I station around 8am when he noticed the woman sitting in the lobby with the child and several bags, so he began speaking to her about her situation.

After discovering the woman was homeless and a domestic abuse victim, the patrol officer made it his mission to find her help and located a relative who was willing to pick the pair up the next day.

However, the relative had to push the trip back a day and the woman and her daughter were still in the lobby the next morning after spending the night at the station when Atkinson came to work.

He found out they hadn’t eaten in days and used his own money to buy them food and drinks.

Atkinson then loaded a car seat into his cruiser and brought the woman and her infant to a hotel.

A police sergeant took photos of the heroic act without Atkinson’s knowledge and they got rave reviews and kind comments after he posted them on Facebook, according to WUSA9.

The corporal said: ‘I had the extra money.

‘What would it hurt just to put them up for a night to make sure they’re safe?

‘This is a helpless child so it’s our duty to help and that child was definitely in need.’

This is not the first time the Prince George’s County officer has gone above in beyond.

He was named the District I Police Officer of the Month in December 2013 after he quickly identified a shooting suspect who was attempting to flee in a cab.

Atkinson stopped the cab and the suspect was found to be carrying two guns and the drug PCP.

Folks, let’s remember this story the next time we hear that police officers are simply racist scumbags. Though there are bad apples in every profession, most police officers get into the job to assist their communities and this is precisely what Atkinson did. Bravo!
