Questions About The Chinese Laughter At Tim Geithner

by John Hawkins | June 3, 2009 10:42 am

This story[1] has gotten some attention, but not nearly enough,

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday reaffirmed his faith in a strong dollar and reassured the Chinese government that its huge holdings of dollar-denominated assets are safe.

“We believe in a strong dollar,” Geithner said in a question-and-answer session after a speech to students at Peking University.

…”Chinese financial assets are very safe,” Geithner said. His response drew laughter from the audience.

What does it say about Barack Obama and the frightening amount of debt that he’s running up when foreign audiences are LAUGHING at the U.S. Treasury Secretary when he claims that their investments are safe in this country?

What does it say about how comfortable the Chinese are about buying our debt?

What does it say about how likely it is that other nations are going to continue investing heavily in this country unless something changes?

What does it say about whether multinational corporations are going to continue to use this country as their home base?

What does it say about how Obama’s economic policies are viewed abroad?

What does it say about how much confidence other nations have in America’s future?

It has been said many times, but it’s worth repeating again: what Barack Obama is doing is radical and extremely dangerous for this nation’s economic future. How radical? How dangerous? It would be comparable to standing on a platform, over a pit of spikes, and juggling newborn infants — except he’s doing it with our economy. If that sounds like an alarming analogy, it’s because you should be alarmed. What Barack Obama is doing is extraordinarily dangerous and irresponsible. This country may not be a Super Power in a decade because of it. Your children may not have a decent future because of it. It’s that serious and it needs to be treated that way.
