Melissa, 23, said: ‘About two weeks ago we first noticed it. We started hearing them scurrying around when we were in bed. When we spotted one we went and bought a trap and we managed to catch it.’

What is it that Melissa was trying to catch? You may be wondering. The horrible reality does not end with the fact that it was a rat. The reality is it was a giant rat that seems so unreal, it cannot be a living thing. But it is. People in Northfleet, Kent are being overrun with giant rats the size of a cat. They are literally measuring around an entire foot long. The pictures are truly unnerving.

It is said that the infestation began when the streets and many homes flooded. Since then the animals have been nearly out of control. Luckily, every effort is being made. They are hiring exterminators to help capture the freakish beasts. But it is not turning out to be completely accurate.

Olushola Alao, of the housing association, said: ‘The housing officer for this area is meeting with the residents to discuss how best to work together, alongside the local authority, to address this infestation as a matter of urgency’.

‘‘In addition, we’re liaising with the council to clear surrounding land of rubbish left by fly tippers.’

Despite their efforts, rats continue to show up in epic quantities and epic sizes. Many parents are terrified of the disease and danger that it is to have these rats in their homes. The fear that they could become more aggressive and attack a child is overwhelming. It sounds like something out of an old horror movie, but for these individuals it is their reality right now.

Just be happy you aren’t experiencing this terrifying problem in your home and neighborhood.
