Right After Iraq It’s South Africa

Right After Iraq It’s South Africa: This is hilarious! South Africa says they can’t afford to fight against AIDS because they need to fend off a possible invasion. But who’s about to invade South Africa? Why — the United States of course…

“Is the United States about to attack its ally South Africa? That’s a concern according to the health minister of Pretoria.

“Look at what Bush is doing. He could invade,” Manto Tshabalala-Msimang told the Guardian newspaper.

According to the report, South Africa cannot afford drugs to fight HIV and AIDS partly because it needs submarines to deter attacks from nations such as the U.S.

The minister said that budgetary priorities meant her department could not provide anti-retrovirals to the estimated 4.5 million South Africans with HIV.

“We don’t have the money for that,” she said. “Where would it come from?”

Asked if it could come from defense savings from leaving out the submarines that formed part of a multi-billion dollar arms deal, the minister said that South Africa needed to deter aggressors, mentioning Bush by name.”

I don’t know if this qualifies as, “delusions of grandeur” because Tshabalala-Msimang thinks South Africa is important enough to attack or whether this is just plain old paranoia. But either way, this qualifies as entertaining…
