Sheriff Gary Gulledge of Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, wanted to do something that would invite the Patriotic spirit to be with his Officers while on duty…so he did THIS...and it’s AWESOME![1]

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Vehicles belonging to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office will be sporting a new message.

Patrol cars will display “In God We Trust.”

Sheriff Gary Gulledge says he’d been thinking of making this move for a while, and that his deputies had an overwhelmingly positive response to the idea.

Gulledge said every patrol car with the sticker was either paid for by the deputy driving that car, or by the sheriff himself. No public tax dollars were used, according to Gulledge.

Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller said he’ll add the same message to assigned sheriff’s office vehicle in his county.

“The whole department is behind Sheriff Miller on this,” Lt. Glenn Daniel of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes.

The Douglas Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with other Georgia sheriffs and sheriffs nationwide on the issue.

Paulding County is already on board and they’re getting mixed reviews on the agency’s Facebook page.

Some people are for it, others think it’s a violation of the separation of church and state.
“We can agree to disagree. Everybody has their own right to believe what they want to believe in and believe in the God they want to believe in,” Daniel said.

Fernandes reached out to the Freedom from Religion Foundation, who has spoken out about this issue in the past.

They sent Fernandes a statement saying: “It’s our mission to ensure the separation of church and state. It’s not a personal issue, it’s a constitutional issue.”

Fernandes asked some Douglas County residents what they think about the decals.

“It’s a personal preference. If they want to do it its fine,” said Broderick Davidson.

“Everybody should believe in God. It’s a good thing with what’s going on in the world. These guys know so, I think it’s a good idea,” said Guy Shivers.[4]

Both sheriff’s offices said the decals were not paid for with taxpayer money and the stickers are being placed on the cars on voluntary basis.
